I was brought up on "Take your feet off the sofa", so, sofa it remains. But at my Aunt's house, it was "Take your feet off the couch". . To each his own!
I say couch usually, but sofa sometimes too. My grandparents used the term Davenport. I remember it was used exclusively to a couch in their front room that did indeed have exposed legs, all burgandy with a raised pattern, in like a loose loop. It belonged to my great grandmother.
