We will be staying in a two bedroom lock off in Nov, my daughter is 5' 9" and slightly Pooh sized. She will be sleeping on one of the pull out sofas with my 2 yr old DGS. I was wondering are they comfortable or does the support bar stick in your back ? Do I need to bring a mattress topper ?

We had friends spend the night on one at BCV. They said it was comfy. They are not small people either.

Resort makes a difference. The newer model sofa beds are comfortable for me because they don't have a bar. (I'm both tall and Pooh-sized.) The sleeper chairs are narrow, but also comfortable.

There are still some of the older types around with the bars, though, in rooms that haven't been refurbished recently.

Oops , I left out that we are staying at BCV. I called there today and they said that they did not need a topper and were comfy. I just want to make sure, it is hard to all the walking , taking care of toddlers and then not to get a good nights sleep:scared1: I am trying to avoid any adult melt downs this trip.

If you are driving and have room put the mattress topper in the car. Our DD was on the pull out sofa at BLT and while she didn't say much directly I got the impression she was bothered by the breaks in the mattress where it folds. She is about 125 pounds and 5'4". She was sharing with her DS age 5 so that may have been a contributing factor also. My DGD said the one at SSR and AKV was comfortable but then as a college student I think anywhere she can sleep is comfortable. Don't know what the latest version of the pull out at BCV is but I would bring the topper if it was not a real inconvenience. Will be at BCV in 2 months but we have the dedicated 2 BR with 2 Q beds so won't have to use the sofa. For those who might use the sleeper chairs at the resorts that have them they are 30" wide by 78" long (the mattress that is) which is half the size of a queen sized bed so not all that narrow although not true twin size.

We are flying, and I thought that since we get two 50 lbs bags free each that I would have DH check the queen feather mattress ( I do not think it weighs 50 lbs because I can carry it down from the attic and I am 5'2" 120/1115 lbs). It is just that DH does not want to schlep around anything else. DD will be sleeping with her son 2 yrs , but big for his age.

If you are using ME your DH will only have to get it to the airport and then when you come back if you use the airport check in at the resort you won't have to bother with it except to get it to the check in desk there.

Below is picture of sleeper chair at OKW. You can see the places the mattress folds. I don't know if the sleeper sofa at BCV is the same type as this but it gives you an idea of what the new ones are like.

I do not know about the other resorts, but the pull outs at VWL are terrible. I wouldn't make my dog sleep on it, even thought I don't have a dog or even really like dogs.

My mother slept comfortably on the one in BWV for 8 nights. The only thing that she complained about was it was difficult for her to get up because of the bar on the side of the bed.

The mattress looks pretty thick, the breaks do not look that bad as long as it stays in position. I hope the ones at BCV are like that.

From experience, the SSR sofa beds are terribly uncomfortable, BLT is fairly comfortable and BWV were the best!

I had a hard time sleeping at AKv. I almost had to go horizontal between the bar/break in mattress. My DS has no problems. I say bring the feather bed if you don't have to pay for it.

:) DH is 5'7" and 270# with a CPAP. He sleeps on the sofabed in our studio each trip and doesn't seem to have a problem. Yes, I have offered to share the queen with him. We have a king at home--he just grins at me and tells me "I am on vacation" :confused3 :rotfl:

I am Ballou sized ((Poohs bigger half brother) and have had good experiences on the new pullouts (BLT and AKV) and a passable night on an old VWL sofa and an uncomfortable time on the old OKV.

If the matress is like the on in the picture, then I think she will be fine. I may call down again and verify this with housekeeping.... maybe someone would be nice enough to send me a picture.:goodvibes

I went with a friend last year in December and slept on the sofa bed in a studio at AKV - Jambo House. I'm average height and weight and after the first night I was pretty miserable - mostly because I'm Type A and I fixated on the hardness of the mattress. I called housekeeping and they had a twin sized egg crate topper which I was able to place, make the bed and fold up every morning. It made it so much more enjoyable. There is no guarantee your resort will have the egg crate topper available, but it is an option.
