As I still have quite a few things to get for the holidays..
several people on this thread and elsewhere has mentioned
Sodoku books are popular with the kids....

What exactly are these books and why are they so popular??
which age group??
I am so out of it..... I feel so old... I have never heard of these books !!

They are puzzles, and are actually pretty hard. I still haven't been able to do them lol

My husband enjoys them. If I were to get them for a kid I would probably say 15 and up honestly I fon't think younger kids could do them.

My DH is addicted to them also.
he is getting 3 books for Christmas.
I don't seem to have the patience
I think I will stick to my cross work puzzles ;)

My step dad LOVES them. He says they're highly addictive too. I'm 19 and can't stand them. I don't have enough patience.

ok.. thanks..
i will check out the website !!
for some reason I thought it was for the 12-15 age groups...

I have seen them at Barnes & Noble. I'm sure they're at other book stores as well. They even have kid level books (in the kids section). DS is getting one for xmas. I think I'll get one for DH too - he loves puzzles.

i'm getting them for the teens on my list. I saw an electronic one and now i'm looking for it again.

I just got 2 for stocking stuffers for the 2 ds today. They also had a kids version one. I got them for 99 cents each . I dont know if these are real or knock offs but for 99 cents its a bargain.

College age students are liking them also. Barnes and Nobles had a huge seldection for all ages.

herc.

I am addicted to them. I must do one with breakfast each morning. Our paper publishes one each day along with the crossword. They come in various levels of difficulty. I can do "medium" okay but find "hard" a challenge. My 7 year old can do the "very easy" ones and my 9 year old can do the "easy" ones. They both like them too. They are fun ::yes:: If the day's puzzle is an easy one, I do it lightly, then erase so the girls can do it too :goodvibes

They don't have anything to do with math, btw. Just logic and deductive reasoning.

You can go here http://www.websudoku.com/ and play for free :teeth:

I am addicted too! I go to the website mentioned in the above posts to play, but I saw several people (all adults) with Sudoku books on the plane home from WDW last week. I also saw a lot of the books at the airport newstands. I'm sure you can find the books at any bookstore since the puzzles are so wildly popular right now.

Our whole family (well, except the 2yo!) loves Sudoku. My 8yo does the easier puzzles alone and does the harder ones with help from me or her dad. Most of the books that I've seen have puzzles of varying degrees of difficulty, so you can start off with easy puzzles and move up. They also have hints and tricks, which would be helpful if needed.

I think they're appropriate for probably 7-8yo and up, depending on the kid. Kids who enjoy doing crossword puzzles, word searches, etc. will probably enjoy them. Kids who don't, probably won't.

That's when DW and I got hooked on them -- on a trip to Greece back in October. DW did the puzzles literally the entire flight both there and back.

I just don't get the attraction...seems lilke math to me.
