Hello all! I am x-posting this as I wasn't sure whether Dining or disABILITIES was my best bet for help.

I am helping friends plan their first trip to WDW. Due to medical issues, their 12yo DD is on a very sodium restricted diet. Will it be enough to have this noted on their ADRs and talking to the server upon arrival? Should I have the mom contact the restaurants ahead of time? We have them planned for one table service a day figuring those locations will be the most able to control the sodium. They will bring most of her snacks and probably breakfast foods and then only have lunch counter service that is more out of their control. Since the amount of sodium she gets will directly influence the enjoyability of the overall trip, I'd love to help them plans as best as possible.

Thanks!

I would suggest you look at Page 3 of the disABILITIES FAQ, especially the area concerning diets. You can get to the FAQ from the forum's index page or follow the link in my signature.

I took my diabetic Mom to WDW a couple of years ago and the servers were so helpful when we requested a diabetic diet. Had no problems at all. Sodium restricted diets are very common so I am sure that they will be happy to help you with your request. (Now Mom is sodium restricted diet also - but haven't made trip back to WDW) Hope your trip is wonderful!!

My Ddad is on a very sodium-restricted diet also and has traveled with us to WDW many times. We always ask to see the chef and they generally prepare a plate for him, even at the buffets. Usually, he would get some sort of grilled meat and veggies. It worked really well everywhere and he was quite pleased with everything. CS, they tended to steer clear of. I do know that they have books with nutritional info there, not sure if it includes sodium.

Good luck and enjoy!

For my son who is on dialysis and thus has a very restricted diet, including sodium, we noted his dietary needs on the ADR's and spoke with the chef. Most restaurant seaters saw the note and had the chef come out to speak with us without us having to mention it again. I had also contacted Brenda Bennett before our trip and she gave us suggestions for the CS meals. Basically we had to go to specific CS locations, put in an order in the a.m. and then return for the meal at a specified time. It sounds complicated but it actually worked really well and my son got something he could eat without having to wonder about the ingredients or hold up the line.---Kathy
