I'm thinking no, but I can't find any info online that says yes or no...

So I'm coming to the experts!! :teeth:

DSIL loves a brand of soda that's only available here in eastern Canada (Sussex Golden Ginger Ale, fyi :) )

On my way tomorrow for a visit (they're in western Canada, so flying domestically), and thought I could take a few cans/plastic bottles - well packed!- as a surprise for her.

Any thoughts?

Still thinking not a good idea... :confused3

The only issue is whether the baggage handlers toss the bags too much. Don't worry about the pressure, ot lack of at 35,000 feet . . . the holds of commercial jets are pressurized just as the cabin. I would pack the cans in plastic baggies and pad them well. You should be OK. Good luck.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it. It's a combination of not knowing how the bags are handled and the pressure.

Even in the cabin, I've seen rapidly opened salad dressing spew several feet, as well as one unfortunate yogurt incident (think foil topped.)

It's not that the depressurization alone will explode the cans. However, all it takes is one pop top getting overly jostled weakened and the added pressure change could spell disaster for your bags.

::yes::

That's what has me thinking...no, I'll leave them home.

All *my* stuff is washable - but someone else may not appreciate smelling like ginger ale for their vacation!:teeth:

Thanks all :goodvibes

I wouldn't take the chance of checking them in my luggage. Have you considered shipping them via UPS or FEDEX to your resort instead?

:teeth: I had that happen to me.
And then the person next to me let it happen to her, even though she saw my experience.
DH and I still laugh about that to this day!

OP is in Canada, which would make it expensive (heavy item) as well as possible customs problems.

I would have no problem packing in luggage (have packed wine and Champagne in checked baggage many times with no problems). Just wrap well in bubble wrap, then seal in a large ziploc bag and pack in the center of your suitcase.

I would think the weight alone in the baggage, depending on how much you were bringing, would not be worth paying the extra for, and me, being paranoid of it expolding, I would not do it.

If you must, however, I would pack it in its own dedicated suitcase and make sure it was sealed up tighter than a drum.

You never know...you might find it in World Showcase! :)
