Soda in main dining room?

Can anyone confirm if soda or iced tea is included in the main dining rooms or the buffet, or do I need to have a beverage package for that? (Or pay out of pocket) and if I need a beverage package, will I need to bring the mug to dinner or show my card at every meal?

These are very good questions! I haven't gone on RCCL yet but I was just looking at the packages online. If I'm reading it correctly, the main dining rooms have coffee, tea & water provided. The cheapest drink package included a soda package to be used in the dining rooms and for use at the soda machines. You get a refillable souvenir mug/cup to use. Your cruise card will have a special sticker indicating you have paid for the package. Looking forward to other posters' responses!

This is a prime example of why we stick with Disney. We have been told that yes you would need a drink package on RCCL for anything but Coffee, Tea or Water. Since we don't drink Coffee or tea, this is a big deal for us.

I'm going to cruise RCI for the first time in 4 weeks. Did some resaerch myself already...

In the MDR and buffet the soda isn't included and you can buy it by the can or get a drink package.
From what i understood is that if you have the same servers you don't need to show your card every time but if you have different servers then i can imagine that you need to.

At breakfast juice ( not the fresh sqeezed) is included in the cruise.
Milk, chocolat milk and ice tea are also included in the cruise from what i understood.

Really

Sailed RCL last year. They give you a mug and a sticker on your key card showing you have the drink package once you purchase it. At meals and buffet you just show your key card to server and they will bring you your soda.

we took a cruise a few weeks ago.

My kids had the soda package.

For the MDR, if you have the package they will bring you a soda (fountain from the bar gun) or you would pay for a can.

You don't bring the cup. the cup is just for the coke freestyle machines. You could fill it up prior to going to the MDR. My kids didn't want to carry the cup around.

You can get water, lemonade and iced tea (unsweetened) for free.

You don't have to buy a soda package, but it will be more economical if you intend to drink a lot of it.

I just go back from Liberty of the seas a few days ago. It was a 5 night. The soda card cost me $38. Otherwise, It was $2.74 per can.

It was very convenient.

That must be how our tablemates were getting soda for no apparent extra. Mystery solved. :)

There's more than just coffee, tea, and water.

The things we paid extra for (by way of our Replenish packages and DS's water package) were things we would have paid extra for anyway. Our lattes/mocha/frappucinos, our bottled water (some can drink ship water without issues, but DH and I cannot)...those are things we would have bought onboard anyway, and having the package made it more convenient.

(some bring water onboard RCCL but officially it's against the rules and I'm not into that...and we haven't yet brought water onboard DCL but probably will in the future...but no matter what you can't bring a freshly made mocha onboard! :))

Thanks so much! How about chocolate milk and juice. Is that included in the main dining rooms or buffet? If yes, then I'm beginning to think I just might be able to get away with one less beverage package! Woohoo! More money in my pocket!

If you want "normal" juice from a carton then it's included. The freshly-squeezed orange juice at breakfast has an extra charge.

Don't know about chocolate milk.

You can always (as long as there are something like 3 or 4 days left) buy a package onboard, so if you find that the included drinks aren't meeting your needs, you can get it later. And if you buy it after the first day it's pro-rated.

I'm quite annoyed to see people saying that our key-cards should have had stickers on them for the soda package...just returned from a cruise last week that was booked in Germany by DBF's grandparents. They got some sort of package which was split between our two rooms--one tumbler in theirs, one in ours. I don't know how that was managed since the only package on the US website is TWO tumblers per stateroom ordered for...

We had to bring the tumblers to dinner for a couple of nights since we had MyTime Dining, but after we settled into a routine with the same servers they simply remembered. On one of the last nights, the grandparents brought the tumblers and forgot them at the table. Would have liked to have taken mine home, but they were long gone by the time they noticed. :badpc:

I had a sticker for coke on my card. I also received a cup. I never carried the cup around. I just showed the server my card and I got a glass of coke.

On the website, it says that everyone in the room needed to purchase drink package. On the ship, you can just purchase one.
