Soda in Checked Luggage

Here's an odd question for you... has anyone ever shipped a case of soda in their checked baggage? Using ME so won't have transportation and I am a Mt. Dew addict. Don't want to spend a ton with Garden Grocer when all I really want is the soda. Has anyone done this? I'm just concerned they'll toss the bags around so much the soda will be de-fizzed by the time it arrives in my hotel. Thanks everyone!

I would be more concerned that one of the cans gets hit and leaks. Not only all over your luggage but anyone's around it. I would double bag it.

I would actually be more concerned about it exploding with the change in plane pressurization. Then you would have a huge mess on your hands, not to mention you might drench someone else's luggage. I am also a huge mountain dew [diet] fan, but since I drive a car I just travel offsite to get it. Guess I didn't help you at all, did I?

We once shipped a case of beer in a suitcase (a local brand that we delivered to a friend in another state) and it arrived okay. I also have a friend who brings bottles of wine in her suitcase. She has a special padded sleeve that she uses.

I would be more worried about a can popping open from the weight of other cases being placed on your bag than it defizzing. Bags are not really treated very gently in handling. They are tossed around quite a bit.

I would place the cans into a larger sealable bag to help contain spillage if it would occur. Try extra padding (clothing or other soft items) around the cans to help cushion.

The bonus is you drink the soda up on vacation and you have empty space in your bag for purchases when you go home!

This is for a potential Mom/Daughter last minute trip next month, so I wouldn't have DH or any of my kids with me. I think I could stay well under the 50lbs even with the soda!

If you decide to do this, please, please, please be sure to wrap it correctly!!! Many here have had their bags and contents completely soaked, by a variety of liquids!! Yes, you should be entitled to carry whatever you want to, but others should also feel free to not worry about their clothing being soaked by someone else's bag contents!!!

Some airlines are lower then 50 pounds. Be sure to check!

We took a 6 pk of 710ml bottles to San Fransisco last year in our checked luggage. I felt they would be sturdier than cans and less likly to break. - cans get pin holes pretty easy, but I've never seen a bottle get one.

We love our Coke, but the US coke is not the same at all!

I just put them in a really big zip lock, but all was fine.

Plan to do the same this time, but with more than 6 since we will have more than one suitcase and longer than a 4 day trip

Not sure what size 710 ml bottles is in imperial mesurements, or if Mt dew comes that way ( or any American pop for that matter, so maybe that is of no help)

This sounds like a lot of trouble to save a few bucks in a delivery service.

If it were me, I'd either order from WGS (no minimums) or, even better, get a towncar. Very comfortable---much more so than ME---kind of a nice splurge, and includes a grocery stop for your Dew.

I would do bottles instead of cans, just on the thought that they will stand up better to being tossed around. Also, double bag the bottles and then pack them in the middle of a lot of squishy stuff. During our last trip to WDW I packed a few bottles of Mt Dew in my suitcase just that way, for my addicted niece. They arrived just fine.

For the few dollars for delivery, save yourself the trouble and the risk of damage to yours and your single serving friend's luggage/objects.

WGS is $15.95 + 15% of grocery receipt total, GG is $12.95 + $40 minimum. I'm not a math major, but I think throwing some double bagged bottles of Mt.Dew in my luggage is a LOT cheaper then having it delivered! Thanks for the tips on bottles versus cans, I agree bottles would be a better plan. I'm thinking a 6-pack will satisfy my addiction and be easy to fly with me. Thanks again everyone!!

We have done bottles in the past and will in the future. We wrap it in a double plastic bag then put it in a box.
