Just wondering if anyone has tried these flying socks (and no the socks themselves don't fly, although at £10 a pair they should do) ;) I have bought some today but I am not sure whether or not to wear them as I think that they might be a bit uncomfortable. I have heard bad things about flying for long periods of time and as the longest I have flown is about three hours I am getting worried hence the socks.

I dont actually wear them myself but a family member who suffers with pains in the feet/legs on a long journey does wear them and has said they are very good.

Cazzie,

It can be only worth a go, I suppose the idea is to get the blood back out of you lower leg after a long period of time.

Myself and DH tried them over christmas when we had a 12hour flight.

To tell you the truth I dont know if they worked as we dont normally suffer on flights. We came off the plane feeling fine but but I dont know if the flight socks helped.

My mother-in-law was insistent we use them for the long flights as she's convinced they work.

For anyone who suffers from swollen feet/ankles after a long flight - I would highly recommend them.

My doctor suggested I should wear them when we went to Hong Kong/Philippines, and I have beenwearing them when we have been long haul now for the last three years.

They really helped to reduce the amount of swelling in my feet - although doing all the ankle twisting exercises, one of my ankles was badly injured a number of years ago and since there's not much good movement the socks rectify the swelling.

The only problem I've had is coming back from hot places like St Lucia and Florida where I've been wearing shorts and then have to walk around the plane looking like right a plonker wearing these long, black socks

Still, they do the job, that's the main thing :)

hi
i found them difficult to get on, but then once on they felt fine and not uncomfortable at all
hth :)

I use them if I've got a spate of back to back long hauls, I do feel they reduce the swelling a bit but they are very hard to get on, I think they are probably only useful if you're prone to sweeling ankles

:sunny: Hi

Just a tip

An easy way to get on the socks is to first place a plastic bag such as a food bag over your foot, they will slip on easier ;) This only works if you have the open toe type so you can get the bag out. :rotfl:

Hope this helps

The purpose of these socks is to help reduce the risk of DVT, a potentially life threatening condition which often occurs when sitting in cramped conditions for long periods. They do help with swelling as well. They are difficult to put on but worth any discomfort.

We have not had them for our last 3 trips but this time I invested in them for the family due to the possible risk of DVT. We are all fit and healthy and don't suffer from swelling legs during flights, however, DVT can hit anyone. Basically because your legs are not moving as they should be, the blood in your legs slows down and clots can form. These clots if they move can then travel up the veins and block the heart or brain off. The trouble is you don't know if a clot has formed till usually a couple of weeks after your flight when I think your leg swells and is tender.

We just thought it was an added safeguard. We got them for the kids because they are so big now that for the first time they are going to be cramped in the seats. I know £10 spent on a pair of flight socks is expensive but your health is priceless and if they can help prevent a clot forming well they are worth it.

My Mum suffers with leg pains on long haul flights. She went over to Thailand last year and tried the socks and they were great for her. She had no pain at all.

"Use the socks".

Hi cazzie

My ankles used to swell up quite bad during the flight to Orlando. During my last two trips to WDW I have used those flight socks and they have been brilliant. They aren't the most comfortable things to wear, but they really do the trick.

Have fun

I have used M & S Travel Socks for my last few trips, alittle cheaper I think than those sold in chemists, these were comfortable, not too difficult to get on and I had no swelling. Haven't looked for them lately but might be worth asking.

Hi Cazzie

I've never flown beyond 6 hours before and so I have invested in a pair of flight socks just incase (I tend to get cramp in my toes). They were a very reasonable £5 from Asda. :flower:
