Socks?

I did some searching and found plenty of discussion on shoes and park bags...but what about socks? anyone have any suggestions? I find that my socks are what cause most my problems but hate wearing shoes without them.

I always wear dri-fit socks or something similar, and slightly cushioned like running/walking socks - never have an issue with rubbing or feeling wet with perspiration. For me, all cotton is the worse.

For extra 'insurance' I always bring BodyGlide anti-chaffing stick with me. It's great for anywhere there is a chaffing issue.

The Champion C9 moisture wicking socks from Target are the best socks I've ever owned. They aren't too expensive - 3 pair for about $10.

I used to have serious blister problems but now I buy Thorlo moisture-wicking walking socks. I think the padding is distributed differently from that in running socks due to the different pressures on your feet during walking as opposed to running. I always carry an extra pair of socks and change around midday when the first pair starts to seem sweaty and to be wrinkling in blister-prone places. I agree with all the PP that those socks may seem expensive but they're worth every penny in preventing misery!

Glad to hear the thumbs up for Thorlo walking socks. I just bought DH 4 pr at Sierra Trading Post. They ended up being $6/pr after discounts! :cool1: I hope they work as well for him as they do for PP's.

Ditto on Sierra Trading Post and socks addict dot com for great deals. DH won't go into the park without his Smartwool, and I wear them for running and the parks year-round (different weights). Lots of good brand recommendations here, but I didn't see any mention of Balega. I don't really like to run in them, but I do love them for walking the parks.

Also to echo a PP, different things work for different folks. Personally, some cotton in a sock doesn't bother me. In fact, I ran in 100% cotton socks for a few years, until more "tech" socks became available in my (rural) area. YMMV. Happy feet :)

Another fan of Thorlo walking socks here. I bought a few pairs before my last Disney World vacation, and after recovering from the sticker shock, decided I was absolutely in love with the socks! Comfiest things I've ever put on my feet. Worth every penny...

surprised no one mentioned this peppermint foot lotion that I rub on my feet after my shower each night.

Would it be from the Body Shop by chance? I use a foot scrub and lotion from there that is peppermint and makes me feet feel amazing.

I also use a peppermint foot lotion on my feet every night before bed at WDW! Works wonders! Two trips ago, I used Burt's Bees and last trip I used the Body Shop. I felt the Burt's Bees one was a little more powerful and made my feet tingle more - which is good!

As for the socks, I searched long and hard for the right ventilated/moisture wicking low profile black socks in a decent price point (that didn't have writing all over them). I bought a pack of 6 pairs for $20 Asus brand socks from Dick's and a pack of Hanes from Target. Both worked fine.

I also give props to mole skin and Dr. Scholl's blister defense bandages whenever I felt a blister forming or skin rubbing - both held up without shifting and prevented blisters/sores from coming through :thumbsup2

I've been looking online for socks for my trip. Problem for me is that I need a youth size. Everything that I've seen has been for adult sizes. Also in colors and/or no show/low cut. That or in a regular crew.

All I want are plain white socks with cushioning that covers my ankles, but not my calves. Anything lower and they just work themselves down into my shoes.

Anyone know a website to get some?

I would never wear shoes and socks unless it's during a cold snap.

Wear a good walking sandal. Then if it rains or you go on water rides like Kali you don't walk around in wet socks.

Wearing sandals while walking a lot just causes me blisters. ;)

What is your favorite walking sandal?

Ditto. I really like my Keens and they are comfortable, offer a lot of support, protection, and ventilation, but after as much walking as it is necessary at WDW, they eventually rub blisters on my feet. I'd love to wear flip flops like many do, but I'm too afraid of stubbing my toes or something or having someone stomp on them, which would make things so much worse, so I stick with Keens if I'm going to go without socks and sneakers.

Wearing sandals don't bode well for everyone. I bought a good pair of walking Crocs at the advice of several on these boards before our last trip. I worke them fine at home and found them very comfortable. Within hours of arriving at WDW, I had blisters on my feet. I can only attribute it to the difference in temperature/humidity in Orlando versus where I live, which I never would have thought about for blisters.

IMHO, if you do Kali, you should bring a change of clothes anyway or have that be your last ride. You get soaked to the bone on that one. I've worn sneakers/socks on Splash before with no issue. But if wet socks are a concern, just bring an extra pair!

For sneaker wearers, my main advice (that I learned the hard way) is to bring TWO pairs of sneakers. That way if you get caught in a rain storm, you can let that pair dry out the next day while you wear your other ones.
