I'm looking for a recommendation for a new brand of socks. These socks would be worn exclusively with denim jeans and sneakers, but never for significant physical activity. (I have Smartwool Adrenalines for exercise, and Thorlos for hiking.) They'd basically be worn driving to work, sitting in my office all day, and driving home. (The Smartwool and Thorlos are simply too expensive to "waste" on such mundane activity.)

A few things though: Comfort is king, and part of comfort is that they don't slip down. Also, durability is important too.

Also: No white socks, and no outlandish neon color socks. Something in-between please.

Recommendations?

My DH and I both prefer GoldToe brand of socks. They offer many styles and colors. They are very comfortable and they wear like iron.

A lot of different stores carry them. Macy's, Kohl's, JCPenny, just to name a few!!!

In my experience Gold Toe pay for themselves by not fading. I like to wear black socks not slightly graying black socks.

More oomph....huh.

Well, I had to google Adrenalines, they appear to be more of a sport type of sock. At least the ones that came up for me.

All I can say is that GoldToe is an affordable, quality sock. Maybe not the attractive patterns in the foot area that I saw with the Adrenalines, but with shoes on, who is going to see that???

If you are wearing them with jeans, wearing them to work, and then driving home, exactly how much oomph do you need? I would rather have affordability, comfort, and quality over anything else. Especially when no one is going to see them other than me!!!

Gold Toe and Hue are what I'd recommend. I really don't wear just one brand, to be honest. I like my socks to have oomph, too, sometimes. If something catches my eye, I'll buy it. =p

(Who cares if no one is going to see them! No one sees my undies, but I don't wear granny panties since no one is going to see them but me!)

yep - Gold Toe is also my recommendation

I suspect the same question could be asked of folks who choose attractive underwear. ;)

It's a good point, though perhaps you might consider how much you care about the appearance of your undergarments... do you feel the same way?

Yeah, there is a great temptation to jump on those argyles. I originally thought that they were the same price as the Adrenalines, but then I saw that THREE packs of Gold Toe were the same price as individual pairs of Adrenalines. Very tempting.

I care very much about the appearance of my undergarments;). I have practical, good quality underwear, that I wear to work under my scrubs. Nothing fancy, I really don't want patients seeing hot lips or any other design through my pants. Bold print panty + light colored scrub pants = every knowing what you are wearing that day!!! So beige colored bikinis for me:). I save the more "attractive" underwear for the other days!!!

I guess I don't feel that plain socks that you can't even see equals "granny panties". If I want to dress up my feet, I make sure my polish is not chipped and either wear a pair of heels or some nice open-toed sandals.

Besides, if I am standing in the bedroom getting dressed/undressed and DH walks in, I certainly hope he is not thinking, "Dang, you look HOT in those socks":lmao::lmao::lmao:! He probably doesn't even realize that I have feet:rotfl2::).

So, to summarize, I don't feel my socks need to make a fashion statement, as only me and my washer/dryer ever see them!!!! They just need to be clean, in good shape, and fit the clothing style that I am in. But, to each his own. That's what makes the world go around:flower3:.

Try the GoldToes. You may be pleasantly surprised!!!

Okay; I guess I look at it the other way, as socks might be seen, perhaps in a fleeting manner, while underwear isn't (shouldn't be) seen at all.

Amen.

I now have one package on-order. I'll have them in a few days. :hyper:

I've now used the Gold Toe socks I bought twice (once after washing) and I'm not really happy. The socks actually do not stay up, like the higher quality socks I mentioned earlier do -- the Gold Toe socks don't even stay up as well as lower quality socks I have tried in the past, such as this.

Thanks for the all the suggestions so far, but I'm still without an acceptable solution. Does anyone else know of any brands that provide the high quality of the more expensive brands but don't cost $16 per pair? Perhaps there aren't any.

Sorry they are not working out for you. I just bought 2 packs of GoldToe on Saturday. Different style that I normally wear, and UltraSoft. No problems so far. And I had to laugh as I was checking out, because the cashier was going on about how much her BIL swears by this brand.

Wish I could recommend another brand, but I love GoldToe so much that I don't wear any other brand.

Good luck on your search.

I have never had an issue with my Gold Toe socks not staying up so I guess I can't help you. Which ones did you buy?

I like the gold toe also. And I never have a problem with them staying up. I buy mine at Sams. (4 pair for $10) I have noticed that they snag easily. I already have two that have holes in them from snags. You just have to be careful when pulling them on not to let your toenails cause snags.

a friend of mine recommended socks made with Bamboo.. i searched them out and I have to say they are super comfy.. sorry I dont know a specific brand...

OMG - OP! Run...don't walk - over to the Burlington Mall to Nordstrom and get some of their own brand socks. They are cotton crew socks in a variety of colors and are totally incredible!

I *know* this sounds strange...I am a sock snob! And I love and wear these with exactly the same clothes/shoes combo you describe.

They are comfy, soft, and STAY UP - without being binding on the leg. I think they are about $6 per pair (?) and after trying them for a short time years ago...I threw out ALL of my other socks and only wear these now. (I must live not too far from you - this is "my" local store...) Nordstrom does have lots of the Hue brand socks and hosiery, but the private label store socks are the ones you're looking for.

Hope this helps! Check back and update us! Nordstrom socks rock!!!

I'll check into that next time I head to the mall. :)
