Socks for orthotics in hot weather?

We're hoping to take our four year-old on a wish trip to Disney this coming April. Right now she has SMOs but will be getting AFO's (to her knee) next week. She already sweats horribly with the SMOs, so I frequently don't make her wear them when it is hot, but with all the walking involved with Disney, she will have to wear them regardless of how hot she says they are. I'm wondering if anyone has tried the Knit Rite (or something similar) socks with bracing. They sound thinner than regular socks and claim to wick away moisture. Any reviews to share?

Thanks so much!

Our son gets very hot too. He has AFO's to his knees too. We love the knit rite socks. Also we have them drill a few more "air holes" in the AFO's. We also make sure to buy the shoes with the breathable holes in them. He still sweats alot and wears shorts til it gets below 40 degrees. :)

:thumbsup2 Great socks, worth the money.

Thanks for the quick response and for the tip regarding the air holes! Does your son wear them with Crocs at all? Ali wears the SMOs with her Crocs all the time, but for some reason, I'm having a hard time picturing her wearing the AFOs with them. If it matters, they will be hinged.

Thanks again!

I know TONS of people who use Crocs with their AFOs with great succuss. My son has never been able to walk with them for some reason. He's wears SMOs (dafo 4s) and we tried using Crocs because of how heavy some shoes are but they just weren't sturdy enough for him and he was falling all over the place. He's kind of inbetween as far as needing SMOs and AFOs but with sturdy enough shoes he does okay with his SMOs so we've left well enough alone.

Crocs certainly would be more breathable and lightweight for hot Florida weather... I think that would be a great option... esp with the Knit Rite (or something similar) socks.

No we don't use crocs they tend to fall off while he is in his wheel chair and then I am always picking them up. :)

I realize this post was from a while back but my son has bilateral AFO's and our therapist gave me a great idea....he recommended ladies knee highs for my son to wear under during the summer....doesnt seem to wick away as much but he doesnt get as hot.
