Does anyone have a social story about cruising that they'd care to share? We have 2 kiddos with autism and they do so much better when they know what's coming. I have started pulling one together but was wondering if I'm reinventing the wheel.

Our speech teachers at school help us make them for our kiddos in classes when needed, but given that they're all pretty much inner-city, cruising is not something they're ever going to encounter. Do your kids have speech providers? Will they help?

My wife is a teacher of young children and uses social stories often. She recommends looking at the following websites and then searching for cruise....

Kidstherapyassociates.com

And royal Caribbean has a wonderful social story specific to cruising (search total Caribbean social story to find it or pm me for more info)

Hope these help!

I have a son on the spectrum, he loves cruising and we're planning our 4th. Before we went the first time, I played a lot of youtube videos for him to see, and ordered the planning DVD off the website.

The biggest thing for us was to bring DS's ear protection. Make sure you know what to expect for the muster drill, it is noisy and is mandatory.

I've never seen any social stories for cruising, good idea though!

We'll definitely have our ear protection with us! All of the shows and even the movies will be too loud for my youngest.

I do know how to write and put together a social story. I was just trying to see if anyone had one started already that I could tweak and not have to write from scratch. They can take a long time to put together for something like this.

Thanks for the input everyone. Maybe someone will run across one soon!

Very interesting I have never heard of a Social Story.

Just an FYI on the Disney cruise you will rotate between 3 Dining rooms. But you will have the same table # in each restaurant and the same servers.

It's also VERY close quarters as they make you line up front to back.

I don't know where to find them now, but if you can find the Navigators for your type of cruise maybe could also help with basic planning and working out the story.
