Soccer Cleats - Help

Dicks usually has some for $19.99. If you have a Shoe Carnival near you, I noticed some yesterday there for $19.99. They're having a BOGO-1/2 off sale and I was buying my DD some shoes there anyway so I grabbed some cleats in the next size up for $10.

I don't know soccer, one of the soccer mom's can tell you but what about a pair of baseball cleats? Our football coach told us to just put them in cleats, they didn't have to be football ones, no need to buy a new pair just for football as they both serve the same purpose. If that will do, try baseballsavings.com It's the end of baseball season now, all their cleats are on sale. There is also fogdog.com and mcsports. I think on one of the deal a day sites you might be able to find a % off at fogdog. I've never bought from them though, don't know what their shipping is like.

If the cleat has a toe cleat (ones on the very front) like football and many baseball ones do than they can not be used. Some organizations will allo you to just cut the toe cleat off while others will not even let you use those in the game. Also, cleats are NOT a requirement in leagues that fall under US Youth Soccer but they are highly recommended due to the grip ability given.

Are there any soccer stores near you? We have several near us and they do a package that combines cleats, shin guards and a soccer ball for around $30.00. I would not buy any cleats or shin guards online, as each type fits differently and they should be fitted to the individual.

And if you buy Zephz brand cleats, do NOT put them in the washer!! I put 3 pairs of cleats in the washer to get them cleaned (have always done this if they get stinky from being wet) and the Diadoras and Walmart ones came out clean and looking good (I don't put them in the dryer) but the Zephz fell apart. No tag saying do not wash but when I went to their website it was on there.

it just hit me, you can order them from walmart online and pick them up in store, free shipping. If you do not want to use a credit card, figure out the cost with tax and buy a gift card for that amount and use it to purchase online. My son did this for xbox live, buying 12 mos through walmart online is actually $10 cheaper and no they won't match their online price to store price.

Thanks Leajess99, I do not know a thing about soccer cleats. Never looked at them close enough to see what the difference is. That's handy info to know.

Target had them on sale a few weeks ago for $15 (picked up a pair for DD then.) I think we get our money's worth out of them, as ours play fall soccer and spring soccer or DD wears hers for lacrosse.

That is the kicker....you never realize how expensive the sport is until you find out all you need to buy! Between lacrosse sticks, pads, field hockey sticks, shin guards, balls, golf clubs, etc. it makes it hard to keep to a budget! And my daughter does Irish dancing....I was warned it was expensive, and WOW it does get expensive between various shoes, dresses, costumes, competition fees, etc!!!!

we normally just buy the soccer packages for $39 at sports authority... since my kids grow and need larger shin pads and a larger soccer ball if they move up a division.. I have never seen them cheeper than $20 except online + shipping..

We bought some for DS at Academy Sports for $8.99. They also have shin guards for $5 and less.

Also remember that you get what you pay for with shoes.. I tried a pair of cheap cleats and my feet hurt for days, and they fell apart within 3 practices. I like the idea of multiple pairs of socks, I do that when I play :)

I am a fanatic about good shoes and a proper fit and cringe at the idea of used shoes. But for tiny kids, it really doesn't make sense to put a ton of money into cleats that they will likely outgrow between a fall and spring season. Especially when they're wearing them for about 2 hours a week.

I found them for $15 at Target for my DD5.

That said, I would never buy those for my DD14.

We got some at Dick's last week for 19.99. There were a few choices for that price. You are right. They do not have little kids sizes online, but they should be in the store.

If you can't afford cleats, don't worry about it. He will be fine with tennis shoes. MY DS played soccer for 4 years. I only bought him cleats the last 2 years. I couldn't justify or afford the expense for a kindergartener or first grader that would only wear them for a dozen or so times in the fall and then they likely wouldn't fit by spring. Only some of the kids at that level had cleats, most wore tennis shoes. If he sticks with it and gets into more competitive games as he gets older, then you could plan to get get him cleats at that time.

I got a pair of last season's cleats at Sports Authority for $9.

They also had this years version for $17 I think.

Hope that helps.

I've never paid more than $20-25 for a pair of cleats at Dick's. In fact just a few weeks ago I got my daughter a new package because she's is now in a U9 league that requires a larger ball and she outgrew her shin guards. She got all Nike stuff: cleats, size 4 ball, and shin guards for somewhere between $35-40. Her last package was $30 for the same. Check online at Dick's and see if they have any packages.

I just bought cleats for DD at Payless. They were $17.99. If you sign up for emails from them on their site, the first email is a 15% OFF total purchase coupon to take to the store (or good online)...or if you have AAA, your card will get you 10% off. :) They're also having BOGO 1/2 off right now...

I bought my DD9 a pair of gently used cleats at Once Upon A Child for $8.50. I offer to buy her new ones each season, but she always turns me down. She says she prefers them broken in when she gets them.

I would definately check with the soccer organization to see if they have used ones you can buy or payless can order them for you. If you go during bogo- you can get another pair of shoes for 1/2 off!

Our soccer league checks for equipment before each game so you have to wear cleats!

I feel your pain about the budget! My daughter was stuck into chorus for her elective- it was her 4th choice- and it requires us to do volunteer work, 20 concerts during the school year, fund raising and buy a piece of garbage $68.00 dress for the concerts! I am trying to get out of it but the guidance counsler hasn't called me back after 3 calls- I'm off to the principal tomorrow. I work late and my husband coaches soccer so trying to do the volunteer work and concerts is going to be a hardship. It would be one thing if this was a major focus for her- she's got a nice voice but isn't going to be a soloist or anything. If it were her life's dream I would work hard to provide it but this is really annoying me!

Buy a pair of soccer ones and use them for Softball - that is what we have done. yes they are expensive. I have three that play - even the shin guards are expensive - good ones anyways. The uniform comes with socks and they are always big enough that my kids put the sock on and then the shin guards and then pull the sock down and over the guard. I would suggest trying to get the organization to set out a box so that the parents can hand off the soccer cleats that are still in good shape that their kids have outgrown to help others. I know we have used the box and then also put in the box but with three kids we pass them down the line and then when my son is done with them, they go in the box.

If you bought the recent ones that Target has which are Diadora's than those are really good soccer cleats. That is what the good soccer store here carries as they are good shoes. Some of the more expensive name brand (Like Nike, addidas, etc) shoes are not always the best shoes either.

I just bought my DD soccer cleats at Dicks for $20.00. Anf they had a few pair for boys and girls at that price.
