 Just got back from a week at WDW and got to preview Soaring!!
Wow, what a ride!!!! Everyone will like it. You have to be in the right spot at the right time for a Cast Member to ask you if you would like to "tour" the new attraction. Seems to be just during the weekdays and each time we saw the royal blue "flight attendant" outfits on the CMs was around 6-7pm in front of the Imagination area and out by the wall that closes off the Land area. Once you get inside the attraction building (by the back way) you can see the queing area is LONG...you can tell they are expecting HUGE crowds when it's open.

Thanks for the tip! Will try and do dinner at Epcot one night, and see if we can check around for a preview of this. :)

Weekday afternoons are your best best.

I queued up yesterday around 12:40pm, and we were let in about 1:30-ish (If there is a makeshift rope queue near Imagination bathrooms, there is a chance for rpeviews that day.)

I was impressed by the queue, and was happy to see that Soarin' will have a Single Riders line when it opens.

I overheard one of the CM's telling another couple that the single rider line would be the SLOWEST line (maybe 3 hours) when it first opens because of the long rows of seating available and seldom will they need a single rider, and suggested that they do FastPass first and if not available to do the standby because it would be faster than single rider. It will be interesting to see if that is true once they open in May.

Can you tell us something about what the ride was like? I mean, does it go high and you feel like you could fall out? OR do you have a safe comfortable feeling? Any thoughts?

I'm REALLY curious about this ride....it sounds awesome, but a friend told me they rode the one in California and were sick afterwards?

I normally won't do motion simulator rides because I got sick on one years ago in Las Vegas, but Soarin looks so amazing I want to try it! :Pinkbounc
I'm afraid though because of what my friend told me.

Also is it ok for kids? My niece is five. Too scary for her? Is is dark at all?
(she won't do any of the dark rides like HM or POTC)

:cool1: Oh WE LOVE SOARING over CALIFORNIA at California Adventure at disneyland. It is my 2nd favorite ride after Indiana Jones. We are so excited about riding the new one in Epcot in May!!!!!

It is like a Giant swing. There is a long row of seats (about 10?) in each swing. There are like 8 swings at one time. Your row gets lifted up and your feet just dangle. You cannot see the other rows. THere is a giant screen in front of you. It really feels like you are hang gliding. The extra special effects make it feel even more like you are really flying over the country. You can smell the oranges when you are over the groves. You feel the ocean spray as you soar over the coast. Everyone tries to stretch out their feet to skim them in the river.

I am subject to motion sickness and I have NEVER had it on SOARING. I also have some problems with heights, but I felt perfectly safe. THIS IS A RIDE DEFINITELY NOT TO BE MISSED !!

We know folks who bought Annual Passes so they could always go over to California Adventure when they visit the park just to ride SOARING. THere is always a line and Fast Passes go very fast. It's not unusual to get a 4:00 fast pass at Noon.

Okay, I will gladly tell you about the ride, but I want to warn those who do not want to hear about the ride and want to be surprised to skip this post.
The "hang-gliders" that you load into are large, some sit 10+ across. Each person has their own seat. The young kids have a loop that their seat belt goes through so they are also secure. This ride is for any age. You first enter the pre-ride area and are placed in row 1, 2 or 3. Row 1 will load first, then row 2 and then row 3. There's a place under your seat to place your packages. When you sit, you use a seat belt. They will ask you to pull on the yellow strap. That strap is attached to your seat belt and when you pull on it, you know that your seat belt is securely in the buckle. There are THREE sets of THREE rows of seats so LOTS of people ride this ride all at the same time. Once everyone is seated and secure, the ride begins by the first row rising up, followed by the second row and the third....sorta like a slow, easy ferris wheel as you are brought up to your viewing level. Your feet do dangle. If you are in the center section, you will see a hang glider on your left and right. At that point you begin seeing clouds and begin your journey. You feel the slight motion of flying, but no falling...it's very enjoyable. Your glider slightly tilts up and back at different times to help you feel increased altitude or decreased altitude as you fly. My friend who rode with me and was not sure if she could ride because she gets dizzy easily. She loved it and said that whenever she worried at all about being dizzy, she just looked at the person sitting next to her and reminded herself that we were just sitting there. The second time she rode, she was hooked and wanted to ride it over and over again. When you ride in the first row, you are on top...the second row is in the middle (you can see the feet of the first row above you), and the third row is on the bottom. We never got the chance to ride in the third row, but hope to. It would be the closest to the bottom of the screen...giving you the effect of splashing in the water as you go across the waves. I found myself lifting my feet a few times (I'm tall), but there never a time when you are doing anything but basically sitting in a chair. One of the CM's we talked to has an 83 year old grandmother and she was coming to the AP preview and was going to ride it. He was excited because this was the first ride that he has worked on that she could ride. I never felt like I was going to fall out. I made sure my seat belt was secure and there are side rails you can hold onto should you want to, but they are not needed at all. I do not like roller coasters, so I assure you that you don't get a roller coaster stomach with this one. They also use scents to simulate the locations, such as pine scent during the scenes with pine trees and orange scent when you go over the orange trees. I could tell more, but I think that's enough to assure you about the gentleness of the ride.

We were in the right place at the right time last Friday.... got invited to preview "Soarin". I can describe it in one word.

Incredible.

I can't wait for the actual preview weekend in April. Did any of you get a glimpse of the merchandise available, as I can assume there is a store after the ride?

Is the end JUST like DCA when you're flying over downtown LA and Main Street at DL at Christmas??? If so look for the hidden Mickey in the fireworks!!!

 Sounds Great! Looking forward to the AP preview in April. MY DH was going to miss that as he comes a few days later. Hopefully there will be a soft opening / preview when he's there as well.

Thanks for the heads up.

If it is like the one at CA look for the hidden Mickey on the golf ball that come flying at you on the golf course.

We all loved it (we actually rode twice!). My 4 year old just barely made the height requirement which is 40 inches and she was not scared at all. :flower:

Thanks for the input. We will be there for Easter. I'll try to hang out around Imagination. Hope we get to go!

My daughter at Epcot earlier this week and one of her friends was picked to ride Soarin'. Really liked it, said the smells incorporated into the film worked well. She also said that CM told her that waiting time could be the longest in WDW at several hours when ride opens. Certainly hope that is not the case.
