How is Soarin' for someone who's afraid of heights? I can handle flying(but don't like looking out the window at take off and landing), I can handle rollercoasters because they go fast and you don't really realize the height you're at, but I can't handle ferriswheels and that sort of rides.

Uhmmm, how are you on swings? There are three rows of seats and they move forward and up so that the front row is the highest off the ground and back row is lowest. You can ask to be in the back row if that will help.

The height of the seats doesn't bother me near as much as the visuals of the ride itself You really feel like you are riding a hang glider over oceans and mountains! i sometimes close my eyes to avoid the feeling of my stomach dropping out! But it's still a great experience! :woohoo:

I always try and get in the back row and never take my eyes off the screen! LOL! I get too freaked if I look over at allllll the other people and realize I'm high up.

My husband has a fear of heights...he tried it once and will never do it again...He loves BTM and will go on that multiple times!

I have a fear of heights (can't even climb a ladder) but LOVE Soarin'....it's one of my favorite rides. I know the screen isn't real, and I don't lean forward and try to look down at the ground while we're "flying".

Now Expedition Everest, I screamed the entire time or so my daughter tells me. I was too terrified to notice. :rolleyes1

Personally I wouldn't recommend it for anyone suffering from acrophobia. While you are pretty securely seated and there's never any hint of actual physical danger, the ride is meant to simulate a hang glider and you will be high up. But it's not just the fact that you are pretty high up, it's that the whole ride is capitalizing on that sensation of being on a flight far above the ground with not much between you at the ground. You are supposed to feel like you are flying free in the air.

My acrophobic husband will not touch Soarin at all, though he will fly in an airplane. The takeoffs and landings make him extremely anxious though. He can do Test Track but that's about it.

I'm afraid of. Heights. But as long as I am restrained on a ride, it is more of a thrill than a fear. I find my resort balcony more freaky than Soarin'.

As folks have stated, the images aren't real and my brain knows this.

I also like Tower of Terror--but my brain knows that I am safely restrained in a very much in control box inside a cage.

But boy was I so ever grateful we scored a ground level villa at BLT.:confused3

The "Ferris Wheel" at DCA is a lot more unsettling than Soarin' to me.
The Soarin seats with seatbelt at least feel more secure (like a coaster) vs being in a Ferris Wheel cage.

:rotfl: My DFi will ride Soarin but almost had a heart attack on BTM lol.

He was squeezing my hand the first time he rode Soarin and said it was too realistic but the second time he was fine.

I'm probably somewhat afraid of heights but I always feel Soarin's safe and don't worry when I'm on there

The height part didn't bother me, as I was looking at the screen the entire time. I did have to close my eyes several time due to vertigo from the visuals they have. It really does feel like you are hand gliding. I can do TOT without any issue, but take off and landing of planes makes me feel sick too.:confused3

My mom completely freaked out on Soarin. She doesn't like heights, and especially didn't like the fact that her feet were just swinging freely in mid-air.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll think about it, right now I'm leaning towards at least giving it a try so I know if it's for me or not for future trips :)

I took my very short 4 year old on the Ferris wheel at Hershey Park in July. Dad had the kids on other big rides. She really wanted a big ride. I held her tightly and looked at the bottom of our very wiggly gondola the entire time. Hope she enjoyed it because that was my last time on one.:scared1::scared:

Im not afraid of heights but I do get dizzy with video projection simulation rides. I do enjoy this ride however, always a must do. I'm sure you can find some vids POV of it. watch a few and it may take the edge off.

Which row do you want to be in if you want to be at the lowest level?

The first row closest to the screen when entering the theater is the one that goes the highest and the last row (I think it is 3) is the one that stays closest to the ground. I've heard people ask the CM to put them in the lowest row and they have no problems doing that.
