Hi
For those of you who have road Soarin either at DCA or EPCOT, do you think a 5 Yr DD would be able to handle it? I mean with the sensory, speed, and height of the ride would it be too much? She is 42" so I know the height requirement is ok. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

The movement is synchronized with the video and without the video one wouldn't have any sensation of speed, height, etc. Tell her ahead of time that if it bothers her, to simply shut her eyes. I loved the attraction when we were in California and we "soared" several times.

I have a minor issue with heights, not that bad really, but I didn't have any problem with Soarin. Went with someone who does have a bad problem with heights and she didn't seem to have a problem with it either. Like the other person said you can close your eyes and you don't really feel anything. There is a seatbelt and also handholds to grab onto. It's also a very gentle ride, like hang gliding. No quick dramatic turns or ups and downs or anything like that.

I was at DCA with someone whose kid was younger than 5, and scared of almost evrything. No problem with Soarin' though.

Cheers.

We just got back and did the preview of Soarin on Wednesday and our DS (5) loved it. I don't think you'll have any problems.

I took my DDs then 3 and 5 on Soarin at DCA. They loved it and they were chickens of most everything. Its a lot of fun!

My son was three and a half when he was tall enough to ride it. LOVED IT! It was the only ride that trip that he asked to go on again and again.

We just got back. My 6yr old and 3 yr old & DH loved it. I was a little sick to my stomach. I don't like heights but didn't think it would bother me. I shut my eyes and it helped. We were in the front cars which go the highest up in the theater. (you'll understand when you see the ride). I think I would have done better if I was at the bottom.

Omni scared the crud out of me when I was a kid. I thought I was literally going to die because the sensation was so real. I still get a bit freaked from it, thinking I am going to fall, etc.....but I will certainly be Soarin' in June.

I would tell her before hand that if the sensations seem too real, she should really just close her eyes.

Thanks for all your replies....We will probably give it a try. I'll take your advice. If she freaks out during the ride I will tell her to close her eyes.

My son was three when we first went on the one in California.

His first statement (he is somewhat precocious) was...

"Dad, this is a quality soundsystem"

Several people around us laughed at that one. That was when I realized that the genes bred true. He was unquestionably my son. :rotfl2:

His next statement was "Dad, are we IN the movie?"

His eyes were the size of dinner plates, but he loved it. We went on the ride several times.

When he was two, we wondered if he would ever talk. When he was three we wondered if he would ever shut up. :rolleyes1

I absolutely know what you mean here! My son is the same!

As for the Height Requirement it is 40"

The first time that I rode it (DCA), I got a bit motion sick- not a lot though.

Of course during the rest our our stay (2 more days), we rode it another 10 times or so. I was fine after that.

You'll love it!!

We rode it today--I think your DD should be fine. There's handholds on either side of the seat, so just tell her to hold on to them (I know I did--I'm terrified of heights, but I do enjoy this ride :flower: ).

It's a cool ride, but I honestly don't think it fits out here in FL. I rode it at DCA, and it fits there, but I don't think they should've used the same film for WDW, especially the final shot (I won't spoil it for those who haven't been on the ride yet). I love the ride---I just wish they had done some sort of "across America" film instead. I hope the rumor that they'll be shooting new film for Epcot's 25th anniversary is true.

This is such a terrific attraction. It's helpful to know that some who describe themselves as phobic of heights find it a bit of a challenge. I'm not a big thrill ride guy, but Soarin' is thrilling without being extreme. I hope everyone tries it. It includes a lot of what makes the very best Disney attractions so good. :earsboy:

I rode it at DCA. It is very very handleable for kids. It really isn't bad at all, I'm questioning why the hieght requirement is so high. Yes, it does bring you in a chair high into the air but you don't even realize it. It's like a big swing but doesn't go as fast. It's mostly wind, from what I remember.

I think the height requirement is just to make sure people are tall enough that they don't slip under the safety bar.

The ride is very mellow, but it would be a reasonable drop if you fell from the upper seats because you fit under the bar.

About as much movement as a chair lift on a windy day, but smoother.
