Soarin- Thursday 5/3/12

There's always a few people that can change life for so many. Personally, I hope they're never allowed in the park again.

One of of the things I've noticed at Disney, and it becomes worse and worse each time, is how stupid and selfish people are. This is just another example.

These guests had no common sense whatsoever. Wiggle out of the seatbelt and stand in the theatre. What complete morons.

Watch Soarin' get shoulder harnesses now. It's like what happened to Splash Mountain with the lap bar.

Idiots.

That could be a solution, but whatever they do to solve this issue, I hope doesn't affect 'smaller aviators' ability to ride, you know, the ones that don't reach the red mark. This is one of my daughter's fav attraction!

Disney should make available a black list of those smart guests, for the rest of us to thank them (people mover is another example, not that Disney has taken extra measures, but people tend to get bored of being moved and suddenly realise they want to move by their own means.

Just annoying.

hey, maybe they'll add a lap bar and then I"ll finally be able to ride without fear of falling out!! :cool1:

but if two normal sized (adults?) were able to wriggle free from the seat belt then it really is a safety issues, especially since kids can ride.

leaving today for WDW and planning on going to Epcot tomorrow, please report if the ride reopens!! bummer that its down!!

It's still being reported closed this morning at WDW.

Stupid, stupid people. A better punishment would be a big Red M on their forhead for Moron! And then make them walk around the park so everyone knows it was their stupidness that shut down the ride.

I don't doubt the person's info, but it seems really weird. The people on either side of them didn't start yelling for a CM when they started wiggling out? There's just not that much time from when they do the seatbelt check to when the ride starts moving. And what good is the "little aviator's" belt going to do? You could still wiggle UP and out of it. I presume they did what people on ToT have done--deliberately kept the belt slack somehow so they could wiggle out of it.

Hopefully the Orlando news will be all over this today with some info.

This is terrible news. People can be so stupid! What on earth are people riding at Epcot today? I'm guessing M:S line is getting really long!

I'm betting it will be down for a while, if they need to redesign the seat belts to make them moron-proof, its going to take a few days. I also hope that they don't raise the height requirement, I'm really hoping to take DS on in the fall!

Apparently it is now back up and running, so disregard my speculation!

Epcot's Soarin' temporarily closed for urgent maintenance
May 04, 2012

Epcot's most popular attraction, Soarin', has been temporarily closed for urgent maintenance. Yesterday a guest managed to exit the glider prior to take off, which has now raised questions about how the guest circumvented the restraint system. Although there were no injuries, Soarin' at Disney's California Adventure has also been closed pending the investigation. No word yet on when the ride will reopen, but with Test Track also closed, you can be sure that Disney will be working flat-out to get Soarin' back in the air.

^No one is allowed inside the theatre while the flight is in the air except for the Tower Cast Member who is monitoring the ride via the cage on the left or right side. The 2 guests wiggled their way out of the belts (which cannot be undone once buckled). Expect a redesigning of the center strap so everyone has to use it now.

Honestly, that center strap wouldn't stop someone from wiggling out... It would take a 5 point seatbelt harness...

I am so angry about this. Who knows how long it will be shut down for? We are supposed to be there in 4 months, which is a very long tome. But when dealing with safety issues,it's not unheard of it taking that long. Especially since this is not a planned maintenance, so they will have to try to figure out a solution, then build a solution and test it. Of all of the Epcot rides, it was the one I was most looking forward to taking my family to experience.

The people who go out of the ride, did it on purpose, you don't just plop out of the ride even if the seat belt somehow got undone. Why waste all that time to stand on line (even if they had a fast pass they still had to plan to get it), in order to get out of the ride?

I feel sorry for the cast members..
Many people are probably complaining that since the main rides are not open they want a refund

They could have gotten a case of the yips. (Still no excuse--call for a CM.)

This was probably a planned stunt, not an accident.

Pure conjecture. Likely we'll know more at some point.

I don't know--if you put the belt on properly, not deliberately keeping it slack, do you think you could wiggle out of it in the short time before the ride started moving? I'm sure we'll hear eventually, but I can't imagine that it wasn't deliberate. But weirder things have happened!
