Soarin question...

I am not scared of heights, but Soarin' does bother me. I think it's because of the seat. My tush just doesn't seem to fit right! :confused3 I always feel pitched forward which then contributes to the "I might fall out" fear (even though I KNOW that is not going to happen) & then I start to panic a little.

I am sure your son is smaller than me so his tush will fit fine, but I use the lap belt AND the inbetween your legs strap as well. Then I lean waaaay back. I also don't sit on the end. I avoid looking down (cause then I am leaning forward) & really focus on the picture/scenes once the show starts. Mind over matter cause all that matters is I want to see the ride! lol

Is the seating designed to make you feel pitched forward or is it just me?

yeah, I'm not large sized by any means but I always feel like I'm just going to slide right out of the seat. I really don't know how people of size can sit in there. I also really don't know how people DON'T fall out - I mean, a little kid could simply lean forward and there is nothing restraining them. I usually think of sitting on the edge of a 40 food drop, with just a seatbelt. Would you let your 5 year old do that? LOL I know, everyone loves this ride. I haven't the foggiest idea why. :lmao:

I have a tinge fear of heights... mostly fear of heights when i see others up high.. really odd... but I remember the first time I was on soarin with my young twins.. it kinda freaked me out a bit.. not the feeling of being up really high but the fact that you are UP real high if your own the first row.. a good idea would be to request the 3rd or bottom row..its not as high..

Yes, there is a restraining lap belt, and no, you can't fall out. A 5 year old would have to be accompanied by an adult (usually a parent) anyway, and if they would be like me, I always keep my eyes on my kids. There is also an additional safety loop for "smaller aviators".

I have an extreme fear of heights, but only when I feel like I can fall (i.e., I can go to the top of tall buildings as long as they're enclosed).

I live near-ish to Chicago and a couple of years ago (in my mid 20s) I got on the ferris wheel at Navy Pier. I literally cried at the top I was so scared.

That said...Soarin' is my absolute favorite ride in all of WDW and sitting in row 1 is my favorite. I think I rode it 5 times on my last trip...twice by myself (hubby decided to give me his FP and go ride Mission: Space instead. I didn't ride as I get very bad motion sickness).

I just made myself seem like I have a lot of problems, but I don't...really...OK maybe I do. :)

But it sounds like he is aware of what he's getting himself into and is old enough to make a judgment call. I say go for it!
