Hi!

If we visit DCA on our upcoming trip, my dh will want to go on Soarin'. I can't remember how far apart the seats are...is it logistically possible for dh to hold dd4's hand on it if their seats are next to each other? She's about 42" (almost 5yo), so she can safely go on it...I'm just trying to anticipate if he can comfort her if she freaks out.

Thank you!

Yes, they can hold hands. :goodvibes

Yes, there is no space between the seats so you should be able to hold hands. I have seen several younger children on it and they enjoy the ride. I am taking DD4 on it for the first time on the upcoming trip, she is so excited!!:goodvibes

Yes, it is very easy to reach you kiddo next to you. Have fun!

Just warn your kids that at the very beginning they will 'go up' but that it will be mild, like an elevator. After that, there is very little movement: it's all from the visuals on the screen, wind in your face, etc. If they're bothered at that point, all they have to do is close their eyes.

DH and I hold hands all the time. if anything the seats a a tad too close for comfy elbow angles....

The "Flying ride" was my 3yo favorite ride when we went a couple weeks ago. He held tight onto my hand for the first ride, but after that he was fine. Definitely able to reach and hold hand though.

I was on the ride a couple of years ago with my 4 year old goddaughter - it ended up being her favorite ride of the entire trip. She had a mild fear of heights, so we would try to sit in the back row of seats (which goes up the least distance in the air), and had her close her eyes while the seats were moving into position. And yes, as PPs have mentioned, it is very easy to hold hands while on the ride.

Is the Soarin in DCA anything like the Soarin in DW in regards to getting a FP right away? In DW you have to go immediately as the line is always long and the FP run out quickly during the more crowded times.

I'd say not really similar. For instance, in WDW when I went (June 2008, granted) there was a line of people just waiting for their FP time to open, it was so popular! I've never really seen that at DCA, and I've been when it was busy.

Soarin' DOES open 30 minutes before the rest of DCA, so if you get to the park at the regular scheduled opening time, there will probably be a line. But it's not like you have to rush to get your FP right away or they'll be gone. I don't know exactly when FPs tend to run out, but it's not very early.

Thanks! It gets crazy in DW.

I can totally reasure you Eeee-va is correct. But FPs don't run out. The stand by only goes past 60 minutes every now and then(true busy days). And it's not the biggest concern to ride in the park like in Epcot(Toy Story Midway Mania is). I want to mention that TSMM is not like in DHS, same ride, but doesn't have FP in DCA and only get a line upto about 45 minutes.

DLR has a higher porportion of rides in it's two park than WDW so crowds spread out a bit. I promise in comparison you will enjoy your experience in DLR as well you 5yo.

You might want to take a look at this link. Hydroguys guide to DLR for WDW vets. It will clear up some confusion and get you pointed towar some great planning. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599

I have been in the Epcot rush to Soarin FP as recently as March, and agree with Eeeva and Ski.

Epcot only has three headliners - Soarin, TT and Mission:Space - with Mission:Space being too much for many people so for those they only have two two FP options - either Soarin or TT.

At DCA one has Soarin, GRR, California Screamin' (closest thing at WDW is RnR) and ToT. It is rumored the new Radiator Springs Racers coming next June will have FP as well.

And top of all that, DCA only has half the attendance as Epcot.

Bottom line - lines are shorter and FPs last longer.

Listen to HydroGuy! There is no need to rush for a Fastpass at DCA. Our return time for Soarin was only 40 minutes after we received a Fastpass in mid-morning. That is unheard of at Epcot's Soarin. We also loved that Toy Story never got above a 45 min wait (also unheard of at WDW). Now if you are hopping over to Disneyland to ride Star Tours, that's a whole different story. FPs run out quickly and the line stays long all day.

We were there right in the middle of Summer last year, and Soarin' ended up being my Father-in-Law's favorite ride from the very first morning of our visit. I made it a special point to get in as many rides on Soarin' as possible for him....we rode twice a day (sometimes 3 times) on every single day of our trip, without ever having to wait in a line to actually get our FP's. When we returned to ride, our time spent in the FP queue was always under 30 minutes.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info and the link. It makes sense about how there is more to do in the two parks. Much appreciated.

If you are planning on grabbing WOC fastpasses you can probably walk right on to soarin (we did that every day) and then grab a fp on your way out.

You can hold each others hands very easily. I hope they enjoy the ride, it is one of our favorites. Golfer gets me every time even though I know its coming!
