Rode Soarin for the second time today with my wife and like the first time I have this feeling like I am going to fall out of the seat. The only thing that gets me thru the ride is keeping my eyes closed and holding on to her arm tight as I can. She wants to ride it again in the future but with my problem, I think she will not do it due to my concerns. Any suggestions how to beat this thing?

I'm with you. I do not like hieghts and I was ok until the "seat" moved up into postion with my feet hanging. I kept my eyes closed the complete time and also thought I was going to fall out when the seat tilted forward. No matter how much you tell yourself that you will not fall and no one else has you still have that feeling. My complete family makes fun of me but I can not help it. So you are not alone. I will not go again so I will wait while they ride it. I do what I like best and that is to sit and watch people.

Do the seats lean forward? I just thought they swayed a little bit? Don't they have you strapped in?

Nope, not alone at all.

I understand it's "safe", but I just didn't feel safe. And I love everything - much rougher rides than Soarin'. I can ride RnR over and over until I'm blue in the face - doesn't phase me in the least.

Soarin' would be a wonderful experience for me if we had a lap bar or some other restraint. A fabric belt that I could concievably slip under does not make me feel safe. The extra, optional loop you can put the belt through is sized for children, not adults.

It's a shame, because it is an amazing ride. Just doesn't feel safe to me. Perhaps it's because I have a long torso and shorter legs, but I wish there was a more secure option for riding.

So, it's kinda like riding a ferris wheel?

Yes, they lean forward. When they lean back I felt secure, but not when tipped forward.

You have a tiny fabric seatbelt, but that is it.

I understand part of this is the optical illusion created by an IMAX screen (the disorienting feeling even in a still IMAX theater), but I really did feel the whole time as if I was slipping.

The seats also don't allow your bottom to go all the way back in the seat!! I have a heights issue also. But, all the discussion about the ride and seats is what makes the ride what it is.

My advice would sincerely be to let your wife get a FastPass and you wait for her when her time to get in line comes up. I went on it in June with my parents, and my mom and I loved it. My dad had the same problem you did. We were in the first row. So, next time, she and I will go and he'll wait for us. Better safe than sorry; no need to upset/stress yourself. It doesn't matter if a ride IS safe or not. If you don't feel safe, then that's what really counts, IMO.

Soaring is an awesome ride. We rode it 3 times last month, The best is in the middle at the top.

Its too bad that Soarin' doesn't have 1 row that doesn't move. Maybe its something for Disney to think about. Its a good thing about Universal. Their Jimmy Neutron ride and Shrek (these I know for sure they might have others) have seats that don't move. Its a big deal with Jimmy Neutron since its a simulator and I'm not good with simulators though I LOVE Soarin' but get somewhat nervous when it leans forward. Though I don't feel as though I will fall.

The moving is part of the ride. the experience wouldn't be the same if it didn't.

I agree.

It's not the movement that bothers me, it's the fact that I do not feel secure in those seats.

If there were shoulder (optional) restraints, or at least adult-sized loops for the seatbelts to go through in the crotch area, I'd be cool as a cuke.

I used it and I'm an adult..... :flower:

Here's a question. With as many people who have ridden it so far, has anyone fallen out yet? I don't remember hearing anything. I've heard nothing but rave reviews from people I know that have ridden, multiple times. This is definitely a phobia and if you dont' want to ride, have your wife ride alone. I've ridden the teacups alone (my dh hates the spinning) and a couple of others because I like them and my family didn't.

Can anyone comment on how this ride is for Pooh sized people? I think my mom would love this ride if I could get her on it - but I don't wnat her to focus on her not feeling safe... and missing the movie part...

Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Laura

If your wife enjoys it and you don't, I'd encourage her to go on her own and wait at the end for her. It's not fun if you know the person next to you is scared to death and doing it only for your sake. I felt totally secure and never felt like I was going to fall out. I didn't ever notice any tipping forward and felt I fit all the way back into the seat. I really loved the ride and was glad I had a FP to experience it again. Once wasn't enough for me. However, each person is different and I think you need to do what's best for you.

I'm pooh sized in the hips and thigh areas and I fit in the seat extremely well and felt extremely secure. I think she should try it once. It's too good to pass on without giving it a try.

I have two issues: 1) I'm afraid of heights and 2) I cannot ride anything that goes around in a circle. Sometimes I have to close my eyes when I'm watching the movies in Canada and France.
I'm wondering if I should try Soarin. Would the first row be the best row for me, and if so, can I choose that row?

Hey, for you folks that have ridden numerous times, how about giving someone else a chance! We are back here on line waiting for you to ride the umpteenth and a half time, and we haven't ridden once yet! Let us get a turn, wouldja', huh? :rotfl2:

Yea, I know, :charac2:
