Hey guys. Couldn't decide where to post this thread as it fits onto the SoCal board as well. I figured I'll get more input here.

So my Mom gets motion sick very easily. She went on Soarin' last year and was fine.

So she wants to know if she will be ok to go on The new Simpson's ride at Universal Studios Hollywood. I'm sure some of you have been on by now. And if for whatever reason she felt nausous, would she be ok to just close her eyes?

PS- She is also afraid to go on Star Tours for the same reason. I told her it is very dated and nothing compared to Soarin', but perhaps you guys could confirm. Thanks!

:goodvibes

I have never been on the Simpsons Ride, but I can comment on Star Tours.

There is NO comparison between Star Tours and Soarig'. Soaring is a slow lift and then you literally remain still. The entire "motion" is perceived through the visuals of the movie. If you close your eyes, you feel nothing.

Star Tours is shaking, shaking shaking. I love Soaring because heights don't bother me, but I understand the fear. I will not go on Star Tours because of the motion. You cannot take that away once you are on the ride. It shakes. A lot.

I have not been on the Simpsons Ride, but did go on the old Back to the Future that it replaced and if its the same as Back to the Future I would not suggest it.

Star Tours and those types of rides are joustley, and with the screen, sometimes the movement is just off enough between the two to mess with your bodies focus. And focusing on the large screen also doesn't help.

Soar'n is very gentle and my Mom and Grandmother love it, but Star Tours is one of the only rides in the park that is hit and miss if it will make me motion sick sadly :(

I don't think your mom would like the Simpsons Ride very much bc of all the movements. BUT my dad gets motion sickness easily and can handle going on the Simpsons Ride w/ me. I don't know if he goes bc I LOVE the Simpsons and so does he or if it's bc he can tolerate the movements to some point. I think he just closes his eyes though. He also goes on Soarin', but when my aunts went to DCA and went on it, they had bad motion sickness, so maybe it just depends how much a person can tolerate. :confused3

I have no clue about simpsons, but don't risk it. I always have a fear of someone puking on me :yuck: So I tend to ride in that back on almost everything.

I have yet to meet a ride that effected me in the slightest manner motion wise, but the Old Back to the future ride was a skip for me just because it was too jerky and bothered my neck.

My wife loves Soarin, she lasted about 20 seconds into the Simpsons before she had to close her eyes. Heck, I was a lttle dizzy when I got off the ride as well.

I responded to the OP on the other thread.

I have no issues with motion sickness....but Simpsons made me ill. I would not suggest your mother ride it. Closing her eyes won't help IMO either. Skip it. She will be happier.

I had NO idea they got rid of Back to the Future. I thought Simpsons was just a new ride they added. While I do agree Back to the Future is a bit outdated i'm sure some will hate to see it go. I thought it was personally really jerky, and dated the Back to the future.

If it is similar I'd skip it. Back to the Furture was so shakey it was awful. It is one of my favorite movies and I couldn't stand the ride. Soarin is so gentle and calm...skip simpsons.

Honestly, I think it is the exact same ride. Just new theming. When I was riding Simpsons, I could almost recall the exact same ride as Back to the Future. Same cars, same area, same que, same everything. I do think it is the same ride.

My mom gets so motion sick on most rides, Soarin she is totally fine with, and the Simpsons she felt alright through as well. Actually she said the Simpsons ride was just down right awesome.

Ok I just got back a few days ago from our trip and we went on both of these rides :)

I get motion sick very easily - really anything moving makes me ill!

I am 100% fine on soarin', and 100% terrible on star tours. Star tours makes me sick for a long time afterwards as well (didn't go on it this trip because I know how I get with it).

I went on the simpsons ride and did have to close my eyes for about half of the ride because I was feeling a little sick but it was nothing compared to star tours. But also definitely not as smooth as soarin'. I guess it's in between the two ;)
If your mom wants to try it (that's how I felt - I didn't want to regret not going on it) she should - I was ok when my eyes were closed.

I get motion sickness very easily. I can ride Soarin except at the end where we go over the Los Angeles area with the freeways. I have to close my eyes there and open them as we go over DL. I can't do Star Tours. I tried Simpson's this summer and I got maybe 30 seconds into it and had to close my eyes. I tried opening them at different times but had to close them again.

Star Tours is one of our fave rides, and we've ridden it enough to know that you can get a significantly different experience depending on where you sit. I *think* that for us, we are much less moved around when we are seated in the very front. We enjoy rides in the very back, b/c we're moved around much more. :)

And I don't know how they do it, but even when I close my eyes I still get the effects of the ride...I know the "pod" is moving but it's not actually taking off into space, but I still feel like it is with eyes closed.

But with Soarin', if I get a bit woozy I'll shut my eyes. Or, and this works better, just look up at the feet dangling. That takes me "out" of the ride enough to make me feel better.

I just did the Simpsons ride last week (although in FL, not CA) and it made me cross-eyed a number of times. If there's a question, I wouldn't do it. Although, I did enjoy it.

I think that's it, plus if there's anything else going on.

I am afraid of heights, but got convinced to try Soaring because it was such a 'relaxing ride' and 'so gentle' according to the opinion of others.

I had to close my eyes after 30 seconds and still got violently sick after the ride.

Thanks so much for all the replies everyone! :goodvibes

I think I will just let my mom read the thread and let her decide herself.

:cheer2:

Star Tours gives me a massive headache. It doesn't make me sick, just more like I need to sit for 10 minutes, and I also get very sick from motion sickness, and very easily. Good luck .
