Soarin' or RSR first?

We leave four weeks from today for our spring break trip. Woo hoo!

I was very happy to see that Soarin' has been removed from the refurb list, since it is probably my favorite ride. However, I read that they are only running it at half capacity because they are closing one side to refurb that.

I wonder if the reduced capacity means I should grab a FP for Soarin' first? I was originally planning to get one for RSR first and then Soarin'. Does anyone know what time FPs are likely to run out for both rides?

We'll be there Tues-Fri the last week of March, staying at GCH.

RSR without a doubt. Most mornings it's a 10 min wait for Soarin for the first hour or so. Even then you'll be able to get both since RSR isn't "connected" meaning you can get another FP right away without waiting 2 hrs.

We were there in December. My daughter was finally tall enough to go on Soaring and loved it so we went on tht ride many, many times! It never had more than a 20 min wait when we were there. We were hoping to do RSR more than once but that line was always sooo long! One time the sign at the entrance said something like 45 min wait but we waited a hour and a half and then the ride stopped working when we were almost to the front of the line so we went on it another day, one time, with a fast pass.

For me it depends on your group's specifics.

For our family, we can use single rider, and we like to use it for RSR, while we don't care to use it on Soarin'. So for us, if we wanted to ride both equally, we would do Soarin' first standby or FP if available, and then hit RSR with single rider at our leisure.

Families/groups whose makeup or wishes eliminate single rider lines from the possibilities end up with different choices.

Definitely RSR first, fast passes were gone after 90 minutes and the standby line was never less than 1 hour this past week. I never saw soarin run out of FP's.

Thanks for all of this info. I am used to WDW, where Soarin' FPs run out very quickly. I also wasn't aware that RSR isn't connected. Very helpful.

Even with Soarin' working at half capacity, I'd say RSR. Don't know how early you're able to get to CA. We've waited about 15 - 20 minutes for RSR each of the 3 times we've ridden it.

Twice we used early entry into CA on weekdays in June (we were hotel guests) at 7:00 am. Once we were at the park on a Saturday in October at 8:00 am for rope drop. (In this case, gasp pump hose drop - it's so darn cute.) Maybe we were just lucky, but both those times we experienced hardly any wait at all.

Soarin' is my favorite ride at any Disney park but recently I have not noticed terribly long lines at CA for it. And as I've said, the last 3 times we've gone it was in "Peak" season.

Are you staying onsite? If so, you'll have extra magic mornings at DCA. We were onsite a couple weeks ago and we would go one a couple rides (Soarin' and Toy Story) during extra magic mornings and then get in line for RSR fastpasses before the park opened. We wanted to go on RSR together, so single rider wasn't an option.

There is no reason to have to choose between FPs for RSR and Soarin since RSR FP is not connected to the network. You can get both at the same time.

For sure RSR fast pass line and then ride RSR if the line is less than 1 hr then you can comeback and ride again later in the evening. We got fastpasses first thing in the morning and we couldnt use them until 8 pm! Crazy!!! But the ride is sooooooo worth it!

They barely rin out od Soaring FastPass just make sure you go exactly during the return time
We missed ours by 30 minited and they wouldnt let us on!

Have fun!

Today we were running late to EMH so decided to ride Soarin' at 7:30 -it was only about 1/3 full and total time from walking in til the ride started was about 3 min. That beats returning later with a FP any day IMO; we have often experienced upwards of 20 min wait with return FPs.
During EMH you could do Soarin' and a couple more rides while waiting for the first rush to RSR to thin, then everyone but a runner could ride RSR before rope drop [if it's important to you to ride 2 or more times in a day] while one person gets in the back of the RSR EMH FP line right before park opening to get a round of FPs for everyone to ride together - when I wait for FPs from the back of the EMH line it has never taken me longer than 15 min (usually <10) to get the FPs and they're for a reasonable return time - 30-90 minutes out.

FYI the RSR FP line may look crazy long, but it moves really fast. They have like six or eight FP machines or more, and a CM at each machine making sure you get your passes and get out of the way.

Last week my friend and my 13 yo son went single rider on RSR a bit after 9 am on a Saturday, while I stood in line for FP with my daughter. They were on and off the ride about the time I got to the front of the FP line. Then all 4 of us rode together later. My fp was for 3pm (at about 9:30 am issuing time) but I traded with another family for their 12:30 passes. Pixie dust for both families. :)
