Soarin down for 4-6 months starting in early January?

You won't know via the FP site until November when the January timeframe is able to be reserved. 8-)

If Soarin did close, I'm not even sure why someone would spend money to go to Epcot. Test Track, Spaceship Earth, and Captain EO?? Gee that sounds like an amazing day!

They need to just treat Epcot and DHS as a single park until they get more things opened, fastpass reservations included. Remove park hopper limitations for these two parks only, and remove the tiers. You'll have Toy Story, Soarin' Tower of Terror, Test Track, Rock'n'Roller Coaster, Illuminations, Fantasmic, Frozen Ever After, all as decent former tier 1 FPs, making almost all of them available all the time, and several would probably become available for 4th and 5th FPs. Spaceship Earth, Great Movie Ride, Figment, Mission Space and Star Tours would go back to practically always being walk-on because very few people would have FP+ for them.

But of course this will never happen because it gives people the chance to shorten their vacation without missing out on anything, and doesn't require them to spend money on park hoppers.

I read a rumor that Captain EO wasn't getting FP's in November. Either a perm close or a Star Wars preview movie.

Don't know about you but drinking around the world seems like a fun afternoon. :ssst:

Of course there will be a refurb when the new movie/projectors go in, but 4-6 months seems lengthy for that...unless it needs more work than is apparent. Maybe they will redo the queue and such as well.

Disney refurb pages state that Soarin' will remain open for "most" of the refurb. I don't see any way they can shutter it for 4-6 months.

Back last year this was posted that has more details about the permit itself which may suggest that the location of the construction:

What we know:

  • A permit was issued for a project called “Project 87.” The permit states that it’s to “add facility to existing attraction.” It expires in September of 2016, which is a reasonable amount of time for a large attraction overhaul.
  • The current Soarin’ ride holds 87 people, which would explain the name on the permit.
  • The contractor on the permit is listed as PCL; Disney has worked with PCL on many attractions in the past.
  • The area behind the current Soarin’ attraction appears to be a construction zone. Trailers in the area have been packaged up and will likely be removed soon. Concrete in the area has been busted up for removal, as well.

We know where the new "Theater 3" is going in.
It sits "behind" Canada.
It has visibly been under construction all Summer.

What we don't know is where/how the walkway to the new "Theater 3" will connect into the current Soarin' queue.

And, if they will be fully redesigning that queue space.

Soarin' and Canada seem so far apart from each other. That must be one long hallway! lol.

Yes, it IS a long hallway.
But, ALL of the Soarin' theaters (including the ones we have been using for many years)
sit behind Canada.

The map below I made many years ago, so ignore the caption, "New" Soarin' QUEUE.
The theaters I've highlighted are the CURRENT two theaters.

I wonder if they will do what they was done with Test Track was done. Hardly anyone was paying attention to it and Fastpass wasn't issued for it (back in old school ticket version) but Soarin was kept up for an hour after park close while Test Track was down. No body paid attention to the fact so CMs would do their rounds at other attractions and run to Soarin to catch a few rides. If they did that for Test Track I wonder what it would be like. They don't even start really clearing Epcot until 10 so it isn't that hard to keep the rides open 1 extra hour.

Also, with the amount of times Test Track breaks down, could you imagine if people bought tickets to Epcot when Soarin is being refurbed, and then Test Track breaks down? Oh My God, there would be riots. If I was a CM, I'd find the near segway and head for the exit ASAP!!

If you combine DHS & EP into 1 big park, you could almost spend a whole day there! :stir:

With the big expansion coming to DHS, they almost should do that. Enter the gate at one or the other and get a free hopper pass to the other. Make an express boat that goes from International Gateway to DHS (doesn't stop at resorts) .. and get rid of the tiering and let you make Fast Passes at both parks for that day.

You'd think that more needs to shut down before the expansion begins ... especially since they have TWO expansions planned at the same time.
