Soarin Around the World open May 17th

Anyone else heard that Soarin will reopen May 17th? I know several sites say June 17th. My sister was at DS last night eating at Morimoto's and she said a couple of waiters said they heard May 17th-19th?

If it's open on May 17th it'll be the old film. The new film is slated to debut on June 17th

Shanghai has some sort of rights and gets to open the new Soarin film first..which there's is debuting on June 16th

Shanghai has exclusive rights to premiere the new film on June 16th and all other parks can show it starting June 17th. I would presume that waiters are only slightly better informed than bus drivers.

What possible reason would Disney have to give Shanghai the "exclusive premiere rights" to something as innocuous and inauspicious as the new Soarin' film?

I mean, I don't really doubt that this may be the case, I just don't see the reasoning behind it.

Do they expect thousands to flock to the new park just to see a 6.5 minute movie a day or two before it plays in Orlando and Anaheim?
Soarin' is a nice pleasant attraction, and I really like it, but this Shanghai "international exclusivity" (by a day) thing is odd.

It ain't the sequel to the latest Star Wars film.

Shanghai paid for the production of the new Soarin that's why they have the rights. Originally Shanghai was supposed to have it longer than one day exclusively of course but the park is way behind schedule.

It could be a castmember preview in may for some with real people testing of the new queue and theater.. June 17th is accepting fastpass+ and earlier dates are not..
