Soarin' and Toy Story are two of our favorites in WDW. They both almost always have very long waits. Are the wait times in DL similar? When would be a good time to try to hit either of these?

Wait times are much more reasonable at DCA...... a testament to what having an ample number of attractions in a park can do.

Soarin has FP there, TSMM does not.

Soarin might be in a little higher than normal demand right now since it came out of a recent refurbishment.

TSMM has always had a 45-50min wait when we walk by. I think riding it first thing in the morning, when the wait is more like 15min, is a good plan. Have fun!

take the WDW wait times for those two attractions and cut them in half for DCA.
the unfortunate thing is that part of each of those lines is outside and the A/C isn't very strong on the inside.
it was 90ish every day i was at DLR in june/july 2013 and i felt ill after waiting out in the sun for many attractions.

Soarin' has a fastpass so you can take advantage of that and avoid the long standby line. TSMM's line tends to get longer as the day goes by as there is no fastpass so hit that one early if at all possible!

I agree with PP, the TSMM wait time is almost always 45 min - 1 hour, after the early morning. For some reason it just naturally stabilizes to that. Obviously, on really high crowd days, it will be longer, but for the most part that's what it is when we walk by or wait.

We almost always do Soarin' FP.

I agree that of the two, TSMM tends to have the longer line (45 to 60 minutes is not uncommon within a few hours of opening). I would ride that as close to opening as you can and then either get a FP for Soarin' or try standby. As others have said, neither are as busy as they are at WDW, but they are still popular attractions.

If you want to get a sense of the wait times, call Ask Otto. He can tell you the current wait time for TSMM or Soarin' and current return time for the Soarin' FPs.

Hi,

If you are planning to do a Magic Morning at DCA, soarin' should be open during that time. For Toy story Mania, I would suggest it early in the morning like other people have said or close to when the park is going to close. Have fun on your next trip!

For some reason is seems these rides are both easier to ride at DL than they are at WDW. Soarin FP do not run out first thing. FP Soarin for sure. For TSMM, ride it early, and then if you want to ride it again, buy some popcorn and a slushie and stand in line. The nice thing about no FP for this ride is that the line moves pretty steadily.

When the park opens in the morning get a fast pass for soaring over California and then go to TSMM and wait in the line to ride. After the park has been open for 20-25 minutes the line is already getting long and it stays that way the rest of the day.

If you are staying at a Disney property hotel you can take advantage of the Extra Magic Hour in DCA, my oldest and I got there a little bit after it started and walked on Soarin and TSMM. If you're staying offsite, I like the advice about getting a Soarin FP first and then riding TSMM. We also rode TSMM later in the evening, the line the night we were there dropped from around 45 minutes to 25 minutes during WOC.

Tarheelalum is totally spot on. We have done that method ourselves and it's worked out really well

Ride TSMM 1st thing in the AM. Even if the line is starting to climb with regards to wait time its still better to ride in the earlier am since the sun/heat won't be as much of an issue (a good portion of the ride line is outside)

Just got back from Disneyland all of last week. The time for Soarin was around 60 min, average, without the fast pass. With the fast pass, 15 min. It wasn't bad at all! Toy Story was well over an hour, most of our trip.

Last summer when one of the Soarin' theaters was closed the FP was not worth it- you'd still wait 30-45 minutes with a fastpass so we did regular open by going straight to Soarin, was on the first show, done by about :30 past regular open, then headed over to TSMM which had a 10 min wait. If Soarin' FP's are actually worth it now that both theaters are open I agree - do TSMM first thing then do Soarin or get a FP.

If you go during off-season, the wait times are obviously much shorter (not sure when you will be there). In February, we rode TSMM three times. The longest wait was 25-30 minutes (in the evening), and the other two times the wait was less than 20 minutes.

TSMM is really best first thing in the morning or during WoC is a good time too :)

The whole cutting in half argument isn't quite accurate. While TSMM at WDW typically runs around 1 hour, at DL it's always 40-50 minutes whether off-season or summer. As for Soarin', the summer will bring 45-60 minute waits for this attraction, much like you'll see in Florida all year round. During the off-season, though, it will usually run20-30 minutes.

My experience has been different. TSMM at WDW is often close to 80 minutes within an hour of opening. At DCA I have rarely seen it at 60 minutes. It typically tops out at 40-45 minutes when I am there. In offseason it is more like 25-30 minutes. So half the time is a good estimate. For standby. But of course TSMM at WDW has FP.

As for Soarin, it has always been MUCH longer at Epcot than DCA when I have visited. 60 minutes minimum at Epcot. Rarely above 40 minutes at DCA. As a PP said, with the recent Soarin refurb that is likely different this summer.
