I am getting old LOL........spinning rides and motion simulators are out (although I drugged myself up with bonine the first year MS came out), BUT I can still ride coasters and go upside down with the best of them though....anyway I was wondering about Soarin, its looks like one of those rides that could cause motion sickness????? DH just does not understand what I mean when you say you get that "off" feeling from rides..thanks in advance for answering.

Hello,

I would love to know the answer to this, Likewise I can go on any roller coaster but anything simulater based I have to be very carefull with or I feel wobbly for a few hours

Ely,

To me the photos look as if you are in a seat and then there are screen shots going on underneath you as you are moving, this would kill me I think LOL.

I agree, I think that is worse than the simulators.

Soarin' is a gentle ride. I would think only those easily prone to motion sickness would have any trouble. If you can handle the 360 movies at Epcot I think you'll do fine. :earsboy:

I have major motion sickness issues, but rode Soarin in DCA without a problem. I had to take my eyes off of the screen every now and then and look at something stationary in the room. I can't remember which row we were in, but I do remember the theater was not completely dark, so I could focus elsewhere when I needed to.

I am prone to motion sickness. I couldn't wait to get off the Star Tours ride while everyone around me was smiling and enjoying themselves. Since then I avoid those types of rides. :bitelip:

I have ridden the Soarin ride at DL and loved it! It's a slow, smooth, gliding type of ride and you feel a stream of air being blown at you during the ride. I'm looking forward to riding it again this May. :p

I certainly hope it is OK!

One ride through Body Wars about 10 yrs ago did me in! I knew I couldn't do it... yet it was Disney.. so I still tried.. what a mistake!

I just stay away from those now.... although I still love mild rollercoasters.. but not Tower of Terror!

Glad I'm not alone in not being able to do simulators. I'm worried about Soarin' too. With this style of film, I tend to get into "it". Example "Open Water" the movie about the couple left behind. I actually had to walk out of the theater because I was getting seasick. Family got a kick out of that one.

One question I have about Soarin' is that there are different heights by the row. Can you ask for a lower row? Did I mention I'm not a heights fan either? But I love R&R coaster and Space Mountain.

I can't stand simulators either. I hated Back to the Future. Star Tours is OK, it's more gentle but I only ride it if I'm with friends who want to. I was OK on Mission Space until it got to the part with the crash landing on Mars. I don't actually get sick but I just don't like it (I was disoriented after Mission Space). On the other hand, I love Space Mountain, RnR, any roller coaster. Hate ferris wheels. I may give Soarin' a shot just to see what it is like.

DisneyWisher,

I too got very sick during open water.....people who do not suffer from this (like DH) just think I am crazy or its all in my head, but those of you who get this feeling know what I mean.

I went on the ride in CA. and it was very gentle. There were 3 rows, 1st row is the highest. And gets the most total experience. The back row goes up about 10 feet, if I remember right. This is not a thrill ride.
I loved it. :cool1: :cool1: After it ended, the ppl started clapping, it was so good. But since we are all different, you must decide.

I had to try Mission Space once, and got queasy on it. :sad2: But I had to try once.
I get seasick, carsick, motionsick.

See ya there :earsgirl:

I get sick on spinners and motion simulators and coasters and a bit on Dinosaur, Spiderman and such. Soaring has a one minor spot (similar to being in a circle vision film) that sightly gets to me and then another worse 5-10 second part that can cause momentary dizziness but in general it is an okay ride for me to do. When you ride there is a part in Yousemite where you make a sweeping turn that can cause the trouble. Toward the end is a shot coming in over Navy ships in San Diego that really does a more nauseating turn. Just close your eyes for 7 seconds or so and you should be okay.

Glad to find this thread! I, too, can no longer do spinning rides or simulator rides (although I LOVE coasters and other thrill rides!). Can't do body wars or star tours as they make me feel funny. I haven't tried MS yet...I plan on bringing lots of motion sickness meds to try that one in December. I was also wondering if I'd be able to to do Soarin'. I couldn't watch all of Timekeeper as certain scenes made me feel sick. I'll definitely try Soarin' and hope for the best!

I also have trouble with motion sickness but still ride Star Tours, I just keep my eyes closed! I have a bit of trouble with IMAX movies too but I can tell when it's happening and I just look away or close my eyes for a moment or two and that seems to work for me. I say, give it shot and close your eyes at the first sign of trouble, that's what I'm going to do!

:goodvibes DH gets motion sickness from visuals too. He can't handle star tours or mission space. He loves coasters! I on the other hand like spinning rides and visual motion rides. Neither of us have a problem with Soarin'. The whole family LOVES this ride, including DD who rode it when she was 5 (she is now 8). Six more weeks and we will get to ride Soarin' over California in Florida!

We rode Soarin several times in California. It was an amazing ride! I've always been prone to motion sickness. DH is mildly sensitive. We both felt is caused minor motion sickness. For me, something similar to riding space moutain. For some reason the second day we rode it we were both a little more sensitive. I'm thinking we hadn't eaten. I haven't tried mission space but DH never recovered after he rode it. It was late in the evening and we decided to go back to our hotel. I would think only the most sensitive would need to exclude soarin. :goodvibes

I live in CA, have an AP to DLR and have ridden Soarin' exactly one time. I got sooooooo sick from the motion of the film, not the motion of the ride. Then again, I can't watch the China Pavillion 360º film, or ride on glass evevators either.

Well, it's out for me then. I can't watch any of the movies in Epcot without getting dizzy.
