How bad is this ride for someone who gets motion sickness fairly easily? I've heard how awesome this ride is and it has me torn.
How did others with motion sickness handle the ride? It's rides with the giant screens that get to me, I can handle other types with no problems. Some of the giant screen rides I can handle if they are mild but too much jerking around and pretty soon I'm down for the count.

I don't get motion sickness as bad as I'm thinking you do - but I do get it sometimes. Star Tours KILLS me. But I don't get sick at all with Soarin'. The ride itself is VERY smooth and the screen is SO HUGE it's all you can see - so it's like you're there. And, if you feel sick, you can close your eyes and just feel it. Don't pass it by!!

It is very pleasant. You should give it a shot, you'll forget about the motion sickness thing and enjoy the experience! Have them seat you on the lower seats in the back as you won't be lifted as high. It is a big screen thing though so maybe send the family on a scouting mission and see what they think before proceeding.

We love to cruise, but I live on Bonine and ginger chews to deal with the seasickness. No Star Tours, no King Arthur Carousel, no Cups, et ceteram but have never had a problem with Soarin'.

I prefer the middle row of seats because from the front/top and back/bottom rows you'll see some peripheral non-screen areas. Center middle row most envelopes you. There are no jerky moves and you can feel the wind blowing in your face (as well as smell the scent of whatever you're 'flying' over).

I think the breeze effect is a big plus - as I always turn on the air full-blast to get through bumpy airline rides.

The only trouble is that it's not long enough!

I get motion sick quite easily & didn't have trouble with Soaring. Both of my kids do as well & neither of them had any trouble either. Some of the others have some good tips as to where to sit, etc. Closing my eyes worked wonders too! Everyone is different of course. It was the teacups that did the 3 of us in! lol

I've only been on Soarin at WDW (which I believe is the same ride), but DH gets motion sick sometimes and he didn't have any issues with it. It was a very smooth ride (like the wind was really carrying you), but it DOES have a very large screen if that will bother you. I hope you're able to do it - it's really amazing!!

You guys have me convinced I should give it a try. I'm so glad to hear it's not too bad for lots of people that get motion sickness.
Sounds like something I can handle and from all the positive reviews it sounds like it's worth taking the chance anyway.

My son(19) gets sick just riding in car and star tours absolutely does him in, but he has no problems with Soarin. I love this ride so much that I started hang gliding with a trusted friend two years ago at the age of 60 plus. You will love it.

I'm another one who has trouble with Star Tours but Soarin' is a breeze......literally. Probably my favorite ride. Well, top 3 at least.

Enjoy and have fun!

I do love this ride, but I do have to tell you, the one and only time I have ever been sick at DL has been right after I rode this ride. :confused3

I don't get motion sickness usually at all. Maybe it was that we ate right before we rode? But right after we headed to DL and then I had to lay down on a bench on mainstreet. I was so dizzy and sick to my stomach. I was by myself (sent everyone else on rides!) and barely made it to the bathrooms in Adventureland.

Anyways, just passing that on.

I love this ride but I can only do it once a trip as I find that I get a head ache after it. I get dizzy espcially during the city scenes. So I've learned to just close my eyes during certain points of the ride. My family loves it so I always try it at least once a trip.

I do get motion sickness fairly easily, so I take Bonine or some other pill every day of our trip. I take one in the morning and I'm good to go for the whole day. I've done Star Tours, Space Mountain (WOOHOO!!!), BTMRR, Matterhorn, Soarin', GRR, you name it.

The only one I haven't tried yet is California Screamin'. My DH has an iron stomach, and he said he just about lost his last meal upon take-off. :scared1: Plus, I'm a chicken. :rotfl:

Soarin' is not bad at all, but don't ask me about the Sunwheel ... the most EVIL ride in DCA:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Definitely a 5-scream ride

I get very severe motion sickness. I wear a transdermscope patch while at Disneyland or I would not be able to ride ANYTHING.

Once, I didn't replace my patch on time and did ride Soarin - it made a little dizzy but that was all. (I still had enough meds in my system thank goodness).

I can also tell you that even with the patch there are rides that still make me sick, so don't let Soarin' scare you at all! I totally love that ride.

As for the Sun Wheel - I had a hard time on that during the day, but at night, it is a completely different experience. My husband talked me into the swinging gondola and like a fool I said okay. I was so scared and so sick I vowed I would never do it again.

The next night, I decided what the heck. We wanted to see if we could see Small World Holiday from the top (yes, you can). We again rode a swinging gondola and it was amazing. Not being able to see the ground really helped me out!

Soarin is one of the best rides I have been on anywhere!! My husband, who does not like any rides (he goes to Disney just to make me and the kiddos happy) because he does not like anything jerky, etc. loved this ride. He rode it 4 times. It is really smooth!!

Hi Keli,

Welcome to the DL board. :)

I agree with the others, and glad you are going to try it.

My younger dd get motion sickness and she didn't have any problems with Soarin'. My older dd who doesn't get motion sickness was shaking the entire ride and had to look at the floor several times. We think she just wasn't feeling secure in her seat and had a fear of falling.

Oh good I'm glad you're going to give it a try! I agree with every one else you absolutely MUST do it!

I am the worst person for motion sickness! Riding in a car as a passenger makes me sick, surfing made me sick, boats, trains, buses, really almost anything moving, i-max movies... Star Tours was a horrific nightmare for me!
So I too was hesitant at first to try Soaring because of my extreme motion sickness, but I went on with the idea that if I wasn't feeling well I'd just close my eyes. But I didn't even have to :) It was a totally smooth ride! If I didn't get motion sick, I bet you won't either!
