I dont know if there are any store going out here. When are they starting ?

Sears and Kmart both are owned by Sears Holding Company. They are closing about 120-125 locations, a mix of each brand. I'll see if I can find the list of closing locations and link it.

Sears has always been a big retailer of appliances and after they bought the Kmart company which was going backrupt, they moved some of their store brands to Kmart. I just noticed a couple months ago that Kmarts started selling big appliances too.

I had the list handy on my email so I'll copy it in.

WOW! That's a lot of stores in a lot of locations.

The economy must still be terrible.

So I just talked to my grandmother. She's doing okay for the most part. Her throat's sore and she's lisping from the intubation during the surgery, not to mention that she's also still woozy (which I'm assuming is from the anesthesia), so we didn't talk long. She said that she's going to be transferring to a rehab facility from the hospital so that she can heal up and learn to walk again, so I'm sure she'll be there for a little while (at the nursing home I was at, hip fracture patients were usually there for about six to eight weeks). She also said that the flowers were beautiful, so I'm glad we sent her some :)

In the grand scheme across the country it's a pretty fair distribution...
There are a lot of Sears around...

I'm glad your Grandmother is doing ok Dana. I hope she has a speedy recovery and good recovery. With a good range of motion.

Thank You for the update, I am glad she is ok. She sounds like she is in good spirits.

I like Lowes, hey I dont have a life either. This will be the last vacation for quite a while.

Hope you have a great time! :goodvibes No vacation for me until the end of Nov. probably. :sad2: I get lots of vacation time, but my DH only get 3 weeks so he'll only go away 1 of those weeks. The others he wants to do stuff around the house. We're planning Disneyland this year & I want to go during the Christmas season.

I don't know that they are going this. If you have a Kmart or Sears near you that is closing, they may be selling thier stock at a discount.

I know they will mark everything down as they emtpy out the inventory of the closing stores, but with those big items they might move them to another location.
.

Good idea! But the stores here aren't closing. I will check out Sears tho, we usually buy all our appliances from there.

We don't have a life....we're on the DIS too much for that! ;)

Is Lowe's in trouble? Are they closing stores?

:lmao: :thumbsup2

No, Lowe's isn't closing. I just never bought an appliance from there & thought I should at least see what they have. Not a lot of appliance stores around like there used to be. I'm just trying to check out as many as possible.

So I just talked to my grandmother. She's doing okay for the most part.

Glad to hear she did well with the surgery! How old is she? I hope her recovery & rehab go smoothly.

I'm glad word got to you. Will you be able to help her with rehab so that she may get home sooner?

Sears really had bad luck. They bought Kmart thinking it was a cheap deal, and couldn't turn it around.

Sears was a sot of mixed company, retailer and property owner. So as retail fell it hurt it, but as it owned a bunch of shopping centers and malls where it had it's own stores, it's tenants were closing up too. So it was positioned terribly.

It hope to make Kmart a online giant, as Sears had some other online brands. Kmart online is junk and I guess everyone else thinks so.

When Kmart was going bankrupt which was around 01, it closed a lot of stores.

When Sears and Kmart combined it has a few thousands locations so loosing 120 isn't too big of a deal.

My DS works with retailers and gets a lot of information, apparently my nearest Kmart is one of the best and sometimes the top store in the chain. Which makes local media look really dumb when they speculated ours would be closed.

It won't hurt. I get their weekly add in my newspaper and they always have some sale items.

Yeah, she sounded okay, just tired. I hope she has a good range of motion as well, obviously :lmao:

Agreed. I'm really glad she's all right.

I think she's 82? I don't remember off the top of my head and my parents are in a dead zone right now.

Yeah, it was just one of those situations where no one was available to get in touch :lmao: Unfortunately, unless I move to Seattle, I wouldn't be able to. She lives in a small suburb of Seattle, on the side of a mountain.

:rotfl2: Gotta love the local news crews!

Dana, glad she's doing better.

Focus, we get a lot of appliances from Lowe's, they are great with the delivery too. We had to upgrade 4 apartments in the last two years, and still have one more to go.

Darcy and I are working at 1st St. She is cleaning the place. I just finished measuring every nook and cranny. I'm going to calculate the SF now. Does anybody know if you include closets in the calculation? There are lots of closets here.

Glad she's pulled thorugh. Hope the rehab goes well.

In hindsight, turned out to be a bad strategy! But if times were different....

I didn't realize that I though she was around Chi town as well.

I never realized how bad falls were for the elderly until I asked about markings by a lot of the rooms in a retirment home. Fall Risk.

No. Imagine you take all the furniture out, where can/would you walk? That's the honest amount of SQ.

Many exagerate and include the closets, shower/tub, area under counters. Pretty much anything between the walls. Under stair cases, I'm even seen some include space taken by the interior and exterior walls.

Are there laws regarding the calculation for CA? There is a law for everything else.

My great grandmother died in a fall, it was down her cellar steps, but Fran's parents were constantly falling and breaking things. It all started on Pearl Harbor Day in 2004. I think each of them fell at least 3-5 times. Once was on T'day when her father decided to start celebrating at 8:30 AM. By 9:00 he put a nice dent in the plaster wall with his head! :lmao:

Well in the major rooms alone there is 1137sf, then the halls, closets and bathrooms each add another 100sf each making a grand total of 1444sf.
