So, you recommend a friend for a job and he embezzles...

I'm pretty disturbed by this because I have known this guy for 17 years.
I/we/someone has always been there to pick up the pieces for him and help him along. Once he realizes I won't be helping him with absolutely everything for the rest of his life, hopefully his self serving actions will then at least come back to haunt him. I wash my hands of him at this point.

Thanks again for letting me vent. This has been driving me crazy for a couple of weeks now and just getting me anger out there has been a great help. Have a great day everyone!

I wouldn't put anything in writing... number one rule. Who knows how it could back fire...
Personally, I wouldn't bother to speak to him. Just cut all contact. If you start talking to him, then it just gets bigger and bigger, and you get caught in the middle of the mess.

I've cut ties with "friends" before. It's not easy. But I've found the best way is silence.

Sorry you're going through this!

Nothing in writing. Not a word to him or about him with mutual friends. Someday (soon) he will ask why. The only explanation you owe is that you don't trust him - goodbye - click. Anything else keeps him calling. Don't be tempted to open up a can. He will not be affected by your ranting. The energy would be completely wasted.

You've been used - stay mad.

Ending associations is hard, but there are many people worth of your effort - find them.

Your reputation is intact. You're way ahead of the game.

I'm going to swim against the tide here. The situation you have described indicates that he may have a substance abuse problem, (partying, stealing, etc.) How about a good old fashioned intervention with a bunch of those mutual friends? It doesn't sound like you're ready to let the friendship go completely, and maybe he could seek help for whatever his problem is. :confused3

I would tell him what I think and explain that you no longer want ANYTHING to do with him. Is the former employer prosecuting him? That should pretty much keep him quite and if they aren't WHY NOT!!!

My mother works for a small not for profit and that much money would really put a crimp in thier activiets (including PAYROLL!)
