Yes it will, but maybe not as much as one might think.

30D currently sells at just under $1000(from reputable dealers).

The 20D which was released in 2004 sells new in box at just under $900.

So I expect the 30D will bottom out at around $850 IMO you may have to wait a good while b4 that happens, but I can see it getting to the low 900s by Xmas.

I can also see canon taking the 30D off the street as to not allow clearance prices getting to close to the Rebel line.

i was thinking of this as well, the rebel xti is still around $800 i think so i wonder how many "normal" people( ie not fanatic such as me) would just get the xti due to higher mp and how that might impact( or not) the price...i know some reviews didn't even encouraging up grading to the 30d from the xti....now if the 40d has a bunch of great stuff maybe nobody will want the 30d ... but then neither will i

I thought the difference from the rebel to the xti was more pixels on the same size sensor so possibly more noise.

and the difference betwen the xti and the 30d was spot metering on the 30d.

I would jump to the 30d from my rebel xt if I could get a nice resale on the current camera. But I think there are probably a lot of them on the used market.

I guess time will tell. B&H is sporting the body for 990 currently, once it hits 900 I can perhaps convince the better half I "need" it.

Jann - B&H also has a body only black xti for 630 and change. A coupon can usually be had if you search hard enough as well.

for me the selling point is the pentamirror/prism, better focus and the faster speed of the 30d. imo the photos just look better and i am figuring it must be the mirror...surely can't be me and user error,i hope ...the spot metering is a plus as well but since i've been using partial metering, i don't know how giant of a difference that will be( ignorant may be bliss here)
i meant it seems a lot of people are swayed primarily by mps as to what they end up with.
i wonder if they put the new processor in how much a difference that will make for speed....the 30d is so much faster already than my rebel. i'm not really sure what would make me go 40 instead of 30, not the cleaning for sure and not sure if a mp jump would since i don't know how it would impact the sensor. but something like 8fps...well 40d here i'd come, even if i'd have to bake cookies and sell them door to door to raise the money i'd need !
