So, why didn't anyone tell me??? Candlelight Processional!!! :)

Where can we buy the CD? I've always just pulled in up on YouTube. I would love a CD!
From my recent experience, they no longer sell the CD in the parks. We asked a cast member about it and said they stopped selling it. I don’t think they have sold the CD for the past few years. I lost my CD about 5 years ago.

doing the candlelight processional for the first time. how far in advance should I get in the standbye line to get decent seats. I don't need to be front and center, but I would like to have something relatively close to the stage

Standby doesn't get seats close to the stage. They sit in an area behind the people that buy the dining package. As far as when to get in line- depends on who you are there to see. Earlier is always better than later.

We did the CP 5 years ago. Gary Sinise was our narrator, and it was my favorite thing we did during our Christmas trip (Dec 21-27). It was simply breathtaking. I especially loved how into the music our conductor was - he was hopping all over and just so animated. I can't wait to do it again, but I don't know when we'll be able to get back that time of year :(

It really depends on when you're going and who the narrator is. When we were there on Christmas Day in 2012, we walked by around 1pm and there were probably already 100 people in line (the first show is at 5pm). We did the dinner package and got in line 45 minutes before our show time and were probably the 20th in that line and got a great seat.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but I don't know if you can get close to the stage doing standby. I always do the dinner package and usually end up about halfway back in the theater.

im not looking to be first 20 rows or whatever. I just don't want to be all the way in the back or worse, miss out on getting in.

A couple years ago we went standby - we were relatively close to the front of the standby line (maybe first 40-50 people) and we were in the center section directly back from the stage, but it was in the back 1/4 of the seating. We loved our seats, loved the show - had a great time. I don't know if they still have the seats seperated in the same way since that was a few years ago. Yes we weren't super close and probably missed some of the close up facial expressions of some performers maybe, but we're going standby again this year and expect we'll be just fine.

We went in 2015 and saw two shows...the first one we had the dining package for and got meh seats. The second one, was a different narrator, and we walked up 5 minutes before showtime and got better seats. I don't recommend this as a strategy, but somehow we lucked into it.

We have done CP two times and literally walked in and they seated us in great seats. Very close to the stage. It was after the special pre-paid folks were in and seated. It was just a long line shuffling in, so we got in that line and were ushered in and seated. We have never waited more than a half hour to get in and watch. I don't know if we are just lucky (twice) but we had no intention of watching but happened upon it as we entered and boom---seated.

Saw this for the 1st time on Friday with Whoopi Goldberg. Wow, was totally blown away, the music, the chorus, it was truly a joyful noise. We had the dinner, well, lunch package for the 5PM show. We got in line around 4:20 or so. We had center seating in the second section, about the 3rd or 4th row and we were able to see the whole stage, from Christmas tree on stage right all the way to Christmas tree on stage left. Truly an amazing thing. Can't wait to see it again.

Hoping the young lady in the chorus we appeared to faint towards the end of the performance is okay. It was 80 degrees and I bet it was very warm on stage. Thankfully a very alert stage hand was able to assist her off the stage before she fell.

Walt would be proud this tradition remains and is done so well.

OWD
I just found out about it too! I had to fight to get lunch reservations with access to the 5 PM show with Neil Patrick Harris!

One question, how dark was it at 5?

As mentioned before, you will be in the back of the theater in standby. The front 3/4 or so is roped off for people with the package- and not a single standby person was permitted to sit in front of those ropes that I observed. That said, the section from the package was pretty full. There were some seats available in front of the ropes- but they weren't in optimal viewing locations. Just before show time they asked people to move to the middle to allow more people in (twice), but even then the few additional standby people that were admitted were seated in the back. I cannot speak to previous years, or the comments made by PPs from seeing it in other years. All I can tell you is that this year no standby were permitted to sit forward of the ropes.

It's daytime. Sunset this time of year is around 5:30.

thats fine, but you still didn't answer my question. how early do I need to get in line to make sure I get in?

Soon as the park opens! That way you'll be absolutely guaranteed to get in. ;)

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Realistically there are WAY too many variables to give you an exact time to show up. It depends on who is doing the reading. People line up five hours ahead for Neil Patrick Harris. And occasionally they walk up 15 minutes before the show starts, on a quiet weekday night with an unknown reader. If you're one or two people, you're more likely to find a last minute seat, than if you're a party of 12.

Assuming you're not trying to see NPH, I'd stroll by and take a peek at how the line looks around noon. If it's small, I'd check it again in an hour, and again, an hour after that. Then every half hour. Jump in whenever it starts to look long.

Alternatively, plan on seeing the final show of the night, get into the standby line 15 minutes before the show starts, and hope for the best. If there's no seats left, at least you haven't wasted much time.

Or just stand behind the theatre and watch it from there.

OR, just do what we do, and get yourself a dining package. It's a wonderful excuse for a sit down meal and you don't have to get in line more than half an hour before the show (make it an hour, if it's NPH).

Ah, then yes... your only real option is lurking around the World Showcase after lunch to keep an eye on the standby line. You can try showing up 15 minutes before the last show of the night, but it's a weekend in December and Kurt Russell is pretty popular with a wide range of people. People who knew him in the 80's as Jack in Big Trouble in Little China, in the 90's in Stargate, and even today in the Fast and the Furious franchise and the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. Plus, he's married to Goldie Hawn (which means she might conceivably be somewhere nearby if she's not working on some other project).

Good luck!

Not sure if you went yesterday or are going today. We were there yesterday and even with the cold weather the standby lines were long. People who got in line around 3:30 didn't make it into the first show. By around 4:00 the "standing area" behind the ropes in the back had every front spot taken. By 4:30 the standing area was parade like, with people running up and standing in the taped off areas and then when told they couldn't stand there they tried to make everyone else move back so they could get behind the tape. And were then offended when people who had been waiting in the cold for 30 minutes already stood their ground. :) But other then that little blip and the wind - it was a lovely show.

yup. this was me. got in line at 3:00 and was 10 people away from getting into the 5:00 show. When I got into the 6:45 was dissapointed to see how much empty seating space there was. Disney needs to do a better job of making people squeeze in to fill space that isn't blocked by a tree. could have easily fit another 20 people into just the rows around me.

I’m hoping to do standby for the second or last show this Thursday. I had a CP package but canceled it due to the expense.

It is Warwick Davis, and even now there is still plenty of availability for CP packages, so I am hoping for the best!
