Saw this for the 1st time on Friday with Whoopi Goldberg. Wow, was totally blown away, the music, the chorus, it was truly a joyful noise. We had the dinner, well, lunch package for the 5PM show. We got in line around 4:20 or so. We had center seating in the second section, about the 3rd or 4th row and we were able to see the whole stage, from Christmas tree on stage right all the way to Christmas tree on stage left. Truly an amazing thing. Can't wait to see it again.

Hoping the young lady in the chorus we appeared to faint towards the end of the performance is okay. It was 80 degrees and I bet it was very warm on stage. Thankfully a very alert stage hand was able to assist her off the stage before she fell.

Walt would be proud this tradition remains and is done so well.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Kids fainting and feeling sick occur with each show, it usually averages about 2-5 kids per show, the stage gets very warm and there is no wind. The kids are told to hydrate, are given a snack before the show and told not to lock their knees but still kids go down

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Just as an FYI, Walt Disney had nothing to do with the creation of this show.

Seriously? That's awful.

Yes, this is too bad that it happens. We went to the show immediately after the OPs- and a kid went down in that show as well. We were in line with 2 families- one had a kid in the CP (and Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade) for 4 straight years- and the other family knew the choir director and had a daughter in the show as well. Both had 'war stories' about how challenging the schedule is for the kids. We found this 'inside scoop' quite enlightening as to what these school kids go through not only to be 'recruited', but then how intense it is once they make it into the show.

Oh, where do I find this magic?

Well, we bought ours just outside the American Adventure, from a booth. But, it looks like it's also on Amazon for download: https://www.amazon.com/Candlelight-Processional-Various-artists/dp/B01LYCCX55

I'm not sure why Amazon's charging such a ridiculous price for the actual audio CD (maybe it's out of print?), but the download fee looks reasonable (a little over 10 dollars).

It's Phylicia Rashad doing the readings, not Whoopi, but it's still a wonderful recording!

Reminds me of being on parade, as a Reservist, back when I was a teenager. We always had a couple faint, in the summer. Cadets, as young as 12, face the same challenges. And while Mounties are adults, they have to wear those enormous bear skin hats. So it's not uncommon to see even one of those go down when they're doing the ceremonial guard performances on Parliament Hill.

Standing still in the heat is tough!

I have to assume the CP singers are given the same instructions we were - hydrate, eat well, wiggle your toes and shift your weight from one leg to the other. If you feel faint, don't wait until you pass out. Go down on one knee and wait for someone to come and get you. We actually had one young man in my unit impale himself on his buddy's bayonet, because he waited too long and toppled over from a standing position. (He was ultimately fine, but it was a bloody mess getting him off the field.)

Where can we buy the CD? I've always just pulled in up on YouTube. I would love a CD!

Quoting myself... ;)

And the parents don't get any preferential seating they have to either make the standby or get the package. Both of my kids have performed for the past 8 years and I have done the standby line, this year my daughter is performing December 23rd and I decided to get myself the dining package for the very first time

Both of these families we were talking to got the package. One of them mentioned being comped entry into the park- but after that they were on their own.

Yes kids get 1 ticket as "payment" the chaperones also get in for free that day. The comp ticket that the kids get can be used another day and it does have black out.
Kids that perform twice a night get two tickets

Kudos to both of your kids, and I hope your daughter has a wonderful time this year!

To be fair getting comped park admission is pretty nice and if they gave families all preferential seating for every show then you'd lose a lot of prime seating each performance for normal Disney Guests. At least the can still get that good seating, they just have to go about getting it the same way everyone else does. Seems as balanced as it can be for everyone. We are doing the dining package next Thursday for our first proper viewing of CP, I saw part of it from just outside the theater back in 2013 when we visited. Our son was too young to really appreciate it and we didn't want to deal with a fussy kid at an 8:15pm show and then ruin the performance for other guests. Bummer too as it was Dennis Haysbert as the narrator that night. But at least I got to see some of it. :)

It really is a beautiful show. I just loved it a couple years ago when I first saw it (and probably won’t get back for Christmas any time soon ). My 12 yr old daughter was a grinch and thought it was boring. As for fainting kids - that was always me. Never at Disney but I fainted a lot in school choir and other long time standing situations. Some people are prone to it no matter what they do. My daughter also seems to have inherited that unfortunate trait.
