So Who's going Pop Warner week??

Please remember that it is "our" vacation, too!! (and for us coaches, it is a VERY STRESSFUL "vacation"). We have to pay all expenses when our DD's (and DS's) qualify to participate in this event!! It's NOT a freebie by ANY means!! Yes, we do fundraise to offset SOME of the expenses, but NOT all!!

I don't know why people "claim" to hear the cheerleaders cheering at all hours . . . it is against the rules and you will be disqualified if you are caught. So please . . . if you witness this happening, turn them in! Less competition for the rule abiding teams . . . MINE!!

You know, as I stated, I have nothing against PW kids except that I want a different sort of vacation for my two small boys than a PW teenager would (obviously) want for him/herself. I have never had any intention of being critical of PW or their presence but the patronizing tone of your post brings out the rebel in me.

I never indicated that I thought "YOUR" vacation was less worthy than mine, far from it. I was directly responding to the PP who stated that "it is your vacation ..." by stating that this is how I make my vacation more relaxing ... to have my kids somewhere else (actually that point is moot - we WILL be at POFQ with a 2-day overlap with PW unless AP rates come out. DH is adamantly opposed to switching unless we can land a discounted rate at the deluxe). It is very apparent that Disney cares more about the mass numbers of PW and their influx of cash than little ol' me - and that is smart of them as a business. Therefore, I don't think - though I don't know all the ins and out - that your chances of having a wonderful vacation are great since Disney is catering to your group and your event.

The thing that really gets me hot under the collar - if I were wearing one - are your quotes around the word "claim" about the nighttime disturbances. There have been many, many examples given here on the Disboard about inconsiderate PW kids at night - I guess every one of those board members was making it up just to defame the kids or the PW organization? Sorry, but you can defend PW without denigrating the experiences of others.

You can bet that I will be calling security if my kids are kept up at night and I will be posting the results here when I return.

Staying at pop century and looking forward to it!
Once the pop warner dates are set though, I may change to another resort for some of those nights especially if some discounts are available.
Same reasons: quieter pool and nights..

JenJersnap thanks for the info. I don't think we will change our plans over it.

I always vacation solo during the first week of December. The only time all those kids bother me is the over crowding in the POR hot tub.
For me, a hot tub should be reasonably quiet and peaceful.

On the other hand, On the morning of December 6th, 2004, I went to the POR food court for a very late breakfast. There was a whole group of young girls practicing cheers in the corner.
I found them to be so totally delightful to watch. Their enthusiasm made me feel great.
I thank them for making my solo breakfast really entertaining !

We were planning on POR Dec 2-11th. We are a family of 5 and POR is the best option for us. Im thinking of maybe moving up to a deluxe to avoid the crowds at the pools and food court. I dont have a problem with the Pop kids, but we are going in early December to avoid the crowds and it sounds like the resorts they stay at tend to seem crowded.

back2disney, we have the AAA rate right now, but hope to get the AP rate later. We have had good luck in getting AP room rates in the past for early Dec..

I think we are going the week after the Pop people leave?? Dec 13-17th (ds's bdy is the 16th!)

Gary M, thanks for the reply. I have a few more question when you get a chance..

1)To get an AP rate, does just the credit card holder(the one making the reservation) have to have a valid annual pass or does the entire party have to have one?
2)And does it have to be valid during the entire stay or at least just for check-in?
3)Are there any other advantages to getting an AP instead of just getting one for a discounted resort rate?

We did Pop Warner week in 2003, at the All Star Movies - it was crowded with tweens. But they were at their activities alot, just mornings and evenings in the food court and pools. Hotel did a good job of putting them all in the same area - away from our rooms. But I did hear talk of loud behavior into the night from some people on the busses. I think that if you are not at a Value Resort, their impact on you trip is even less.

Never really a problem at the parks.

I would not let this be my only deciding factor. Just request a room AWAY from Pop Warner as your first request.

back2disney you might go to http://www.allearsnet.com/pl/apass.htm to see the benefits of the AP.

We have gotten AP's for several years now because we go to WDW 3 to 4 times year. We go 3 or 4 times per year because we have gotten very good room discounts at the deluxe resorts. Without the good room discounts we wouldn't go that many times per year and wouldn't need the AP's. I hope that makes sense.

I believe only one person in the room needs an AP and I think that includes a child.

I don't know whether it has to be valid for the entire stay, but I would assume it would.

In over 20 stays with AP room rates, I have never been asked to see the AP at check-in.
