So Who's going Pop Warner week??

Well looks like we will all be in good company :flower:

Amy...is your son's Marching Band doing a special thing or is their a compition of some sort tied to the Pop Warner? Years....many Years ago I was in a Marching Band and we got to do Disneyland (the afternoon Parade). It was so fun!

Nope, no competition. As far as I know, they'll just march in a parade in one of the parks, and then a separate ensemble will perform on a stage somewhere. The rest of the time is for FUN!

Did you have problems in the parks or at the resorts? We're planning on staying at a Deluxe resort to try to avoid any trouble...

I know the question wasn't directed towards me but we didn't have any problems. I never saw the cheerleaders at the parks and they weren't at our resort (the Grand Floridian.) You have nothing to worry about. :flower:

Thank you for the encouraging words! I've been debating on what to do (push it up or back a week...) but this will probably be the best week for my DH to get off of work.

You're welcome. Early December is such a great time to go. Have fun! :flower:

We were at POR in 2002 and there were hundreds of football players and cheerleaders. We didn't see much of them in the parks, but the food court was always crowded and extremely noisy. The cheerleaders seemed to be practicing all the time out in the grassy areas. We did the carriage ride one night and the poor horse was terrified when a group burst into a cheer just as we came by. We'll never stay at a value or moderate during that time again.

When is Pop Warner Week anyway? Do the cheerleaders always come with them?

Last Dec. I remember WDW closed MGM on Friday night for them. We had to make a bunch of dinig reservation changes.

OF COURSE THE CHEERLEADERS "come with them"!! :confused3 (Who is "them" anyway!?!?) It is a WONDERFUL week (12/4 - 10/05) that you must QUALIFY to participate in. Monday through Friday they have the national cheerleading competition at Disney's Wide World of Sports at the Milk House. It's an honor to participate and a HUGE accomplishment for these girls (oh yeah . . . there are also football games this entire week).

As I have stated on these boards MANY TIMES BEFORE I don't know how these cheerleaders got such a bad rap?!? I have had the honor of coaching my dd's Pop Warner cheerleading team . . three of these years they qualified to participate at Nationals in WDW! Two of my dds qualified in 2003!

They do close MGM early on Friday night for a Pop Warner night. It's a wonderful party for all of these talented athletes!! (. . . and for the football players, too!!!)

CHEERS! :cheer2:

One more thing . . . if things go our way my dds will be competing this year!!! Hope to see you all there!! :cheer2:

We'll be there 12/1/05-12/7/05. We've gone 2x in Oct. but I really wanted to see the xmas decor. and didn't want to get too far into Dec. b/cause of our weather and did not want to get stuck at our airport or something, so we're going then before it gets too bad.
My friend and her 2 daughter's are going too(never been there) and the 1 DD was worried about all the cheerleaders being there, but I told her it might not be too bad and just focus on us having a ton of fun! Can't wait.

We will be there December 3 -10th for 3 nights at the Hilton DTD and 4 nights at the Poly :cheer2: I've given up on worrying about what Pop Warner may or may not be like. I figure it will be much less crowded than say Christmas week and we will get to experience the Christmas atmosphere (plus MVMCP :cool1: )

It can't get here soon enough :earboy2:

Sounds like I have got to figure out a way to financially swing a deluxe for our entire trip, even with no AP discounts ...

Why do so many of you seem to hate the Pop Warner kids??
We go down every year in early december, this year the 7th till the 21st. We have stayed at values and mods and have never had any problems, in fact these kids are alot nicer then the ones here at home in the malls.
Yes the food courts are busier during prime meal times so we always go before or after these times.
since they spend all day playing or cheering you don't see them in the park till later in the week when the losing teams start going.
these kids are not your regular kids, they need to have a higher GPA to be able to play. so lightin up alittle.
We love to go down for the decorations and MVMCP and low crowds and PW does not ruin it in anyway
Remember your on vacation you need to relax. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cool1: :rolleyes1

dec. 1-9! can't wait... dh and i are both former high school & junior high teachers/coaches, so we aren't worried about the pw kiddos a bit! :bounce:

Just to clarify, I do not hate PW kids, far from it, or we wouldn't be going during this week. My main issue is two small kids who need their sleep and after hearing story after story about night disturbances I think we would be better off staying at a Deluxe resort where they are not. In addition, as just one example, I want my kids to be able to actually use the pool without (my admittedly exaggerated) fears of gangs of teenagers taking over (it's the sheer number of them! :rotfl: ). Yes, it's OUR vacation and I want to make it as enjoyable, relaxed and stress-free for MY family by getting out of their way!

I am not at all concerned about their presence at the parks. In February our visit coincided with a large dance competition and, other than one group taking over the main lobby of LTT for a - um - stunningly loud, obnoxious routine, they were fine.

I hope we have a wonderful time since this seems to be the best week for my family to make a Christmas-time visit to WDW.

Please remember that it is "our" vacation, too!! (and for us coaches, it is a VERY STRESSFUL "vacation"). We have to pay all expenses when our DD's (and DS's) qualify to participate in this event!! It's NOT a freebie by ANY means!! Yes, we do fundraise to offset SOME of the expenses, but NOT all!!

I don't know why people "claim" to hear the cheerleaders cheering at all hours . . . it is against the rules and you will be disqualified if you are caught. So please . . . if you witness this happening, turn them in! Less competition for the rule abiding teams . . . MINE!!

We are going Dec 2-9th. We were there last year during PW week and didn't really notice them.

We did stay at Saratoga, so that probably helped there!

We will be there Dec 4th to the 9th, and staying at the Poly. We've been in WDW before during the same time as the Pop Warner event we never had any problems. Last year we were at the POFQ and only saw a group of football players on our last day. We saw some of the cheer leaders in the parks but generally not in large groups.

Hi,
I am planning on going in the first week of Feb. Is there a group similar to Pop that goes at that time? We are planning on staying at Pop Century.
Thanks for any info.

Here's a thread that talks about some January/February 2005 events: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=705008&highlight=dance+competition+February

Some of the dates mentioned are not quite right; the National Dance Team championships - the one I am referring to in my previous post - definitely happened February 4 to 8, 2005. The day we were at MGM, the Indy Jones show was closed down as their competition was in that theatre but that was the only day we saw masses of them. You can search Dis and find many threads that discuss the dates of cheer competitions. As to whether this particular one is happening at the same time in 2006, I do not know, but I don't think it is on the same scale as PW so I wouldn't let it be a deterent if that is the best time for you to come. Good luck!
