So, who's changing their dates to get free dining?

We are maybe going to change our dates. Our kids also start Aug 27th but then have the next Monday off (holiday). So if we leave on Aug. 31 after school and then come back on Sept. 5th then they only miss 2 days of school and also the don't miss the 1st week. So thats what we are thinking about.

what to do what to do lol

If I do change my dates it will be 8/26-9/2. but.. My daughter turns 3 on 8/26 so we will have to buy her a ticket. I would also have to switch to POR to save any money. Currently have WL for 8/21-8/28.

Than I wonder if it will be just a little less crowder if I keep my original dates.

I have always been planning to pull my kids, but I would rather have late Sept so my DS can get used to the routine at a new school (he is going to be in Kindergarten) and so DD can figure out who she will pal around on the playground with. I will move to earlier if I need to, we start school Aug 18 so a solid month would be nice, but three weeks will be okay too.

Nope--as I posted on another thread, since this is a "oh-my-gosh you've graduated from high school with high honors and we're so proud of you" trip for DSD 2, and the college she is most likely to attend begins classes on 8/20. We think it would be really tacky to leave her at home!

We can't change either. DS is starting high school this year, DD 1 will be starting middle school, and DD 2 will be starting kindergarten. Plus DD 3 will be dealing with her first time of not having any of her siblings around during the day.

That is enough change without worrying about anyone missing any school.

Free dining or no free dining, it's still gonna be a great trip.

I would love to change my July ressies but . . .

DD1 High School; DD2 Middle School. I am so jealous of those with a late August start date for school-

We begin school August 6th. Yuck!! :sad1:
How many think school should start after Labor Day and end before Memorial Day?
:flower3:

I changed our dates but only moved them up a week. We were suppose to go 9/27-10/8 but I moved it up a week (9/20-10/2) to take advantage of the free dining. We usually spend $1200 on dining. We tend to eat at 2 TS everyday. So if I can get the Dining for Free we'll only spend around $400 out of pocket for food.

I changed from 10/14-10/21 to 9/22-9/29. Saved us $623, and my work is picking up two nights plus my airfare, and I have two free air tickets on SWA. It'll be a pretty reasonable week for us.

I changed my dates, and I had to change my airfare too. Stupid me had JUST bought the airfare two weeks before free dining came out. But the flights were a little bit cheaper so I only had to pay $70 to change two tickets.

And I'm saving close to $1000 with the free dining so it's worth it. I was booked August 18th - 26th and now I'm booked on August 26th - Sept 3rd.

We are not changing our dates either. My kids start school August 16th, and the only other time we could go is Labor Day weekend. They only have that Monday off, so if we wanted to go for the same amount of time they would have to miss too much school. When we go in October, they are only missing 2 days. Oh well, good things come to those who wait!!!!:goodvibes We also don't want to miss MNSSHP. We are keeping our dates of October 22-28th.

I changed. We were hoping for free dining to begin when value season starts 8/5 and were planning on going then since DS starts 7th grade 8/21. When rumors started that it was later we thought we would just scrap the trip and take a longer trip in May when he gets out of school. DH and I talked about it and decided to take him out of school 9/13-9/23. DS is a good student in a crummy school so we don't feel he will miss much considering I have to reteach him everything he learns daily anyway.

Glad you were able to work it out.

Our school district sends out the threatening letter that we're being referred to a truancy officer after 3 unexcused absences - and all family vacations are unexcused :( It's a bummer.

Have fun!

Been there done that, accept our district sends them out for "excused" as well and we have to meet with an attendance team so they can threaten us live and in person. :sad2: Bad idea on their part. So we aren't changing either.

we are seriously considering it. i am doing the math today and DH and i will discuss it tonight. if all the elements add up, we will be changing from our Aug 2-12 camping at FW trip to a resort/free dining trip.

we have friends who think we are nuts for possilby turning down free dining, but i have to tell you that we see pluses to both scenarios.

we are right now leaning towards staying with our FW ressies, but like i said, if the free dining thing ends up being a perfect storm for us, we will go that route.

We changed our ressies. We moved up our trip by one week to take advantage of FD! My oldest dd will have been in 1st grade for about 6 weeks by that time. Our school does not frown upon taking children out for family vacations! :goodvibes
