So who here Square Dances

I dont....but I have 2 cousins who do....and they are VERY into it...He is even a proffesional caller....I dont know...Just seems weird to me....They dont get to do it as much know as they retired from NJ to FL...and he works for Disney, and she works for SeaWorld, so they never have time anymore.

Back when I was a Girl Scout we used to square dance a lot. I always thought it was a whole lot of fun.

So it's a lost art you are saying?

No, MB, it's definitely still alive and kicking. We were at a campground in July and there was a lot of activity at the barn there, and I went to see what it was and guess what?? Square dancing! Costumes and all, a caller, and plenty of participants.

I would have joined in but I was ummmmm... Let's say hmmmmmm... I had a few too many beers to be square dancing!!!!

Before my FIL passed away last year they went almost every weekend. There are several groups in the area and they would alternate. My MIL still goes to one of the groups but not very often and only the one where they had more friends. My girls have gone with them several times. They like it because everyone usually brings snacks.

Yeah, almost as lost as breakdancing. Had square dancing in jr high gym.

I dance in more of a weaving oval pattern.

That doesn't count I bet huh? :p

nope, I look like Elaine (from Seinfeld) when I dance!!!::yes::

My Mom and Dad were very involved when we were little and Dad became a Caller. I grew up going to dances with them and dancing whenever there was a single who needed a partner. It is a lot of fun and I still enjoy it when I have the opportunity.

same here, I danced with Debbie Twiggs, she was the tallest girl and I was the tallest boy, she was sexy

I did last year at my freshman orientation at Marquette. It's an orientation tradition. But otherwise no.

I did once as a teenager.

I was dared.

I took square dancing in college and loved it....except that it was almost an all girl class and being tall....I had to "be a guy". <sigh> That's one of the not so good perks of being tall. lol But I loved square dancing and would love to do it again someday with a guy, not "as a guy". :teeth:

You should see the senior citizens in my town out on Friday nights! They go in large groups to area restaurants and are all duded up in square dancing outfits....ladies skirts stand out so far I don't know how they sit down! The men all wear western shirts with the little string ties and always a wide brimmed hat. They seem to have a great time. Don't know where the actual dancing takes place, but the public sure gets a kick out of seeing the outfits. DH always says, "You have permission to knock me in the head if I EVER say I want to do that!"

when I was in Primary School I did it:D
