So who else won over skeptics by taking them to DVC?

This is inspired by the "My extended family doesn't approve" thread:

So, most of my friends accept that I'm a Disney fan (they'd say fanatic) and no one gave us too hard a time about buying into DVC.

But I love to take friends and family with us, because there's NO ONE we've taken who hasn't had a jaw-dropping reaction when they've joined us. It's so cool to see their faces when they walk in the door, particularly of a two-bedroom DVC unit.

Anyone else?

but we're hoping to! Can't wait to take all our extended family.

We really didn't have to "win over" anyone, but Grandma's jaw is still wired shut from our trip in December. She'll be taking solid food soon, though!

My parents live in Florida and "hate" Disney, but whenever we plan a trip down (half at WDW & half with them) they always manage to show up at our DVC! My mom's fave is OKW so far. Dad won't admit to a favorite.

DB hooked DW and I into buying after one visit to BCV. Now have my Other brother and BIL on the fence about buying too. :thumbsup2

I'm not trying to win anyone over. Who cares if family and friends don't get it? Not me, less people to have to invite. I bought DVC for my own families needs and we couldn't care less what anyone thinks.

Besides who needs more DVC members. 100,000 is more than enough. Not so much "Disney's best kept secret any longer".

Well, Dait, er, Dave, that would mean not only that many SSR buildings would go unoccupied, but that no further DVC Resorts would be built. You're a brave man to condemn a DVC at CR to oblivion here on the DIS DVC Forum....

Well, we're hoping to convince DBIL & DSIL to take the plunge eventually...they're going down with us in October. From what I know about them, DVC might make really good sense, but of course I don't know for sure...

Gouch & Anna, if you're reading this, just think about the years ahead of watching your own Princess having magical moments at Mickey Mouse's house...it goes by soooo fast! Remember when our Princess had her 3rd birthday with Winnie the Pooh? We figure we've probably only got 4 or 5 more trips with her before some handsome prince steals her away...

My parents HATED WDW - they forked over a lot of money the day after Christmas in 1984 or 1985 so their kids could see the Magic Kingdom during a family vacation to Florida. They had no idea it would be so crowded. It was a nightmare and we left after 5 hours of waiting in endless lines (I think we experienced 2 rides that day). We were all very bitter and deeply disappointed. Of course, I got over it and became a big Disney fan as an adult. Disney had zero appeal to Dad (and Mom who had no desire to listen to Dad complain about it).

Well, last year, we rented a studio at VWL for ourselves and a regular room at the Lodge for my parents (who decided, reluctantly, to join us for a day or two with the Grandkids at MK). I got my Dad the Unofficial Guide for Christmas and the first thing he did was flip to crowd reports - even called me because one of our planned days at MK was a "7" and it concerned him a lot! I told him it would be fine since we were touring in the off season, not Christmas week! Well, low and behold, my parents' standard view room at the Wilderness Lodge was upgraded to a prime pool view room upon check in! Their view was spectacular!!! They LOVED the hotel and even bought a postcard with the Wilderness Lodge on it b/c you could see their room in the picture. They liked our studio and couldn't say enough about the handy little kitchenette (we served them lunch in our room both days - sandwiches and fruit from the fridge - woo-hoo, but they liked it).

We recently booked a 1 bedroom through a member for our next trip and just told my parents about it - My Mom said, "Oh! Give us the dates because your Dad and I would really like to go to Disney again. Maybe two nights this time." I was shocked! I knew they enjoyed the last trip more than they expected, but I thought it would be a one time thing - not an annual trip!!! So, now I'm working on renting my parents a studio for 2 nights during our trip. My Mom thinks our plan to purchase DVC is a great idea. The whole thing tickles me and I can definately see us letting my parents use some of our points so they can visit in the off season for a night or two here and there.

We weren't trying to sway them to DVC - I guess it was an accidental conversion!!!

I think the biggest "skeptic" that I've "won over" is my DH! He was NOT happy about us buying into DVC, at the time.

I get so tickled now when I overhear him telling somebody else about the program, and "how great it is."

We don't have kids, so we take friends/family over a lot - and they ALL love it!

On our way to Florida, DB, who used to say he'd never go to WDW, asked me "why do you keep going to Disney?" I said, "You'll see..." :thumbsup2

By the end of the first day, without setting a foot in any park, he kept saying, "I LOVE THIS PLACE!" Now he and his SO are DVC'ers at the BWV--their favorite resort.

My DH, like Beth's, had to be won over, too. After a few DVC stays, he now tells people how great DVC is. (I have to remind him that he should say, "Disney Vacation Club", not "DVC," as he gets some strange looks sometimes from those who don't know what "DVC" stands for! :rotfl: He's just so excited about it!) :Pinkbounc

No one has been completely won over yet, but they are on their way...

Since our last trip I have been relentlessly questioned by my Mom & Dad and two SIL's, every time I see them. All wanting to know what it costs, how it works, how many points do they need etc etc etc. All of whom when we bought, thought we were nuts. 'Why would you want to go to Disney all the time?'. 'Why would you want to buy at BCV when you live at the Jersey Shore?' Well, now they all know. Even my sister is saving for her next trip (though buying DVC is likely out of the question for her, I told her we could help her by using our points). My one SIL even mentioned selling a condo they have to buy DVC.

None of them are ready to do this immediately, but I do smell it coming. And then they will be saying what we all say 'We should have done it sooner!' :thumbsup2

On a whim, I took a new friend with me to SSR and stayed in a 2 bedroom last night with our kids, just so we could get out of town and get a break. This friend moved here from CA a few months ago and hadn't been impressed with Disney in CA.

Long story short, her husband drove over to the preview center this morning at 9am and they signed a 200 point contract by noon! :rotfl: I love it and love the fact I get perks for referring them, even better!
