So where do you think my keys are?

I lost them in my house and have realized that I left my oldest dd's gift at work. Problem is, my only copy of the office key is on that key ring. And I can't get another one of my dd's gift (it's the 'santa gift' and I had to order it online). So where should I look next? If you don't know, can you just tell me I haven't 'ruined' Christmas. Oh, and what are some alternatives for a 'santa gift' for 10 yo girls this year?

Were you carrying anything into the house when you had your keys in your hand? I dropped mine in a bag with paper towels in it, and put the bag downstairs and into the garage.....being the lazy person I am, I just put the bag with paper towels into the garage. I 'lost' my keys for almost 2 weeks, and drove everyone and myself nuts looking for them. Didn't find them til I went down and got a new roll of paper towels........ :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My keys once disappeared. I found them in the cats' litter box. If you have pets - check their usual spots.

Any small children? I had to resort to asking mine--and she took me to exactly where she put them (underneath my nightstand). She had picked them up for me.

Also--one time my mother's keys were lost for days--we resorted to moving furniture---her keys had fallen behind her dresser.

I misplaced my makeup back this week---it ended up in the pipes underneath my sink. Lost for 2 days and I was steps short of thinking my babysitters had helped themselves with sticky fingers to my makeup. I had even offered money to see if they could help me find it. They looked under the sink even and didn't notice it either.

So my last suggestion is to look in your usual spot--and then with a fine tooth comb search every inch of that spot for your keys.

For the santa gift---does any other co-worker have a key and do you have a way to contact them. Perhaps finding a picture of the item with a note from Santa and wrapping that up???

Did you have to unlock your door to get in? If so, check the door lock. If not, check your car. SO is forever leaving his keys in the car.

My 14 month old son likes to put my keys in the bathtub.

Did you leave them in a pocket? Or in your clothes that you took off? Maybe a sweater or something? Did you throw anything away in the trash? Where was the last place you know you had them? Did you need them to get into the house? Did you leave them in the ignition or trunk? Check the door lock if you used them to get into the house. In the refrigerator? Did you lay them down on a counter somewhere, the kitchen, bathroom?

i usually will leave them in the car..drop them on the way to the house..or they get kicked under my bed

my two year old threw mine into the garbage

Could some one from the custodial staff get you in your office?

Check "inside" your sofa. DH threw his keys and his cell phone on our love seat and they managed to find a previously unknown tear on the back that allowed his keys and his cell phone to fall inside the framework of the couch. Thankfully the cell phone was turned on but it still took us a while to figure out that our couch was actually ringing.

If you have young kids, check the toy box. Mine loved playing with keys and I found mine there one time.

Another time I lost my keys for a very long time. I had to order a new remote for our car which cost me 80 bucks. Meanwhile, ONE YEAR LATER, my Mom casually asks in conversation, "You didn't lose your keys by any chance, did you? Because I have this set that has been in the bottom of my purse now for the longest time and they are not mine." She must have picked them up at my house by mistake and said she had been meaning to ask me about them for "a while now".

So, the point is, they could be literally ANYWHERE. :rotfl:

I don't know where your keys are but when you find them, they will be in the last place you looked. It ALWAYS happens that way. ;)

under a pile of mail?
in the bottom of your purse?
fall onto the floor and are laying under furniture?
leave them in the car?
in a pocket and now in the dirty laundry pile?
in the washer?
in the dryer?
laying on the counter?
coat pocket?
in your bed?
in the pantry? were you putting away groceries?

Here are some ideas...

1) I always am looking and panicking over whatever it is that I have mis-placed. I am not Catholic, but a Catholic friend told me that St. Anthony is the Patron Saint of the lost (or lost things?). Say "Tony, Tony look around what was lost, must be found." And then STOP looking. The lost item usually turns up shortly...when I am not so frantic.

2) Go out to your car, walk from the car to the house. Walk in the front door. Look around (and this is very important) on all surfaces AT EYE/HAND LEVEL. That might sound obvious, but I can't tell you how many times I have misplaced a cap, looked for it where it is supposed to be?...and then found it on a corner counter/shelf in the kitchen. So, walk from the door to wherever you normally go when you enter the house, kitchen, coat closet, bathroom, laundry room... Walk slowly around the house and do a circuit...look on kitchen counters, bathroom shelves, bookshelves, computer desks, at eye/hand level.

3) Did you have any groceries with you or presents when you last entered your house with keys in hand? Check wherever your gift stash is, or wherever the wrapping paper is kept. This next might sound funny, but check your freezer and refrigerator and cupboard/pantry. You might have put the keys away with your groceries.

4) Offer a cash reward to anyone in the house who finds it.

5) Check whatever coats/outer gear you were wearing when the keys disappeared. Check the LINING of the coat, maybe the keys fell through the pocket into the lining. If wearing boots, check them. Maybe the keys fell down inside the boot or whatever shoes you kicked off at the end of the day.

Good luck, when you find them let us know all about it.
agnes!

Ask your other family members if they "put your keys up" for you.
Are they in your trunk, under the car seat, etc...
Look in your washer...maybe they were in your pocket

Coat pocket?
Under the couch cushions?
In the refrigerator? (don't laugh I have done this)
In the car?
On top of the fridge?
On your bed?
Under your computer keyboard? (done this also)
Did you check under any and all tables in the house?
Fireplace mantel?
On your kitchen counter tops hiding behind some item?
In the bathroom?
On the doormat when you walked in?

Don't worry you will find them. And you haven't ruined Christmas!! :sunny:

Keep us posted!!

ETA...oops didn't see Grumpy's Gal post!!

By the phone?
In the refrigerator?
In the pantry?
Bathroom?
Coat pockets?
Bottom of your purse?
:confused3

AFter reading the post about the Saint of Lost things -- it reminded me that I have thrown up my hands and said "Lord, can you please help me find my keys!?" and then it seems like they are right there

I am hoping by now you've found them and this is all unnessary
