DH and I have both worked at establishments where unspeakable stuff was done to returned food by spiteful "chefs." :scared1: At a very expensive place, or at a place with a wide-open kitchen like 'Ohana, I might send something back, but otherwise, I'd rather live with what I get.:sad2:

I agree! DH and I also worked at restaurants in the past, and I'm sure things like that haven't changed over the years! My aunt's brother is a maitre'd in a fancy restaurant in Manhattan and even he says to never send food back if you can help it...even in a fancy place! Maybe in a wide-open kitchen or if I was sitting right at a sushi bar where they prepare the food in front of me, but otherwise, no!

Yes we send it back, politely though.

People are going to say all kinds of horror stories, fact is yes they can happen, do they always....NO.

IF I am paying money I want it right.

Yes, you do have a point! No, things don't always happen. Heck, things happen in restaurant kitchens all the time even when no one sends food back.

Have seen food come out of bins onto peoples plates, so when i get a bad meal it goes back and I eat somewhere else.

1) Yes, I send it back.
2) We have interests in two restaurants.
3) If anyone "played" with food when sent back, they are gone.
4) Does "playing" with food happen.
5) Yes, I would think so.
6) If in doubt, I ask to watch the preparation, WHICH I HAVE DONE.

NOTE: We were out one evening with another couple, when she sent a meal back. She told the waiter that the waiter would "taste test" the meal when it came back. She actually cut a piece of meat from the center and had the waiter eat in in front of her. One could assume there was nothing wrong with it. Maybe a little gauche, but very effective.

I have sent back items at WDW. Most notably was the catfish at GG that was cold and soggy. They brought out a nice crispy, warm dish. It was perfect.

I also make sure that if I take the time to complain about the food (which I have done maybe a handful of times in 15 trips) that I also ask for the manager and complement good service or food when it occurs.

The one time I did not send something back that I probably should have was at Tony's Town Square. The pasta was overcooked for my taste but I will make sure I order it al dente next time.

How are they going to know people are not pleased with the food unless it is made know. If the waitstaff is unable to rectify it with the kitchen staff then ask for a manager. If people just stop going or don't go back they really won't know unless you tell them why.

There are food tampering laws and I am sure WDW is fairly vigilant with this. Am I saying it doesn't happen? No. But, I am willing to take the risk to make things better.

If something is undercooked, especially chicken you bet i am going to send it back. Im sure the above may happen occasionally but the way some of you had mentioned makes it sound that every place does this which im sure they do not. There is probably a higher chance of this happening in a fast food restaurant such as Burger King or McD's, then at one of the table service restaurants.

My mom has worked in restaurants her entire life and has NEVER witnessed anyone doing unspeakable things to food being sent back to the kitchen; my boyfriend's mother is in the same boat and again, has never experienced something bad happening to food that was sent back.

I always find it interesting when other people claim they've seen it happen all the time...maybe people are just nicer in Texas. :goodvibes

Have I sent stuff back, yes, but usually I don't bother because by the time I get my corrected dish, the rest of my party is almost done. I just don't finish my meal and get a snack elsewhere later.

While I understand the odds are VERY slim that someone would do something out of spite, it happens enough (and once is enough for me) for me to personally not want to take that risk.

I'm RIDICULOUSLY nice, even though I'm not from Texas...well, usually. ;)

I really think it all has to do with your attitude. If you are honestly sending it back because its not done right (and you haven't already sent back your salad, appetizer, fork, glass, etc.) then you are probably fine. No one ever did anything to food at the restaurant I worked at.

What really annoys me (and I just posted about) is when people complain through their meal and still eat the poorly cooked food. Then, they expect it for free. IMHO, "free" means you are getting your money back because you could not eat your meal or because they made you another one and decided to make it complimentary. If you don't tell the waitstaff/manager kindly that something is wrong, then you have no right to complain.

That's me too. I do let the waiter know my issue with the dish, but usually don't send it back for another.

100% of the time it goes back undercooked or overcooked. If i wanted it screwed up i could have done it myself. These are professional cooks or chefs and we expect them to know what there doing but i never take it out on a server.
We do fill out those surveys that are on the receipts usaully giving praise and criticism where we felt it was needed.

I only expect it to be replaced if it's cooked improperly. If it's just a lousy recipe or I know that the restaurant generally makes food that isn't great, I just expect it and live with it.
