I went a couple of times as a kid, many years ago. I am organizing a caroling event for the CCD kids in our church tomorrow night. I think I am looking forward to it as much as the kids.

About 10 or so years ago, a bunch of people from work got together and went around to the nursing homes, and around town, caroling.

It was funny. In the first retirement home, there was a man who hurried to the door to get out of the main room ASAP so he didn't have to listen to us. There was another man, you could tell that he turned his hearing aid WAY down. It was so hard to keep singing while you watched this play out. When we got out of these we all just cracked up.

Then we went to another nursing home that's right off of our hospital. This one wasn't so funny. We were singing and there was this one little old lady in a wheelchair that didn't want us to leave. She sat there singing with us and waving her hands all over like she was a conductor or something. As we left in the elevator, she was making a fuss, crying and screaming for us to take her along. That was really difficult to watch and it was hard not to imagine the enjoyment she'd probably had gotten out of the holidays in earlier times. God bless her. :sad1:

Some of my coworkers asked if I wanted to go caroling. I thought they were kidding! I might take them up on it, though, since the kids are always asking me if we can go. I told them people only do that in movies!

I haven't been caroling since I was a child/tween.

I wish you lived near me, I'd love for your gang to carol in front of my house! I'd treat you the same as my group was treated, I'd invite all of you in for hot chocolate and give everyone a handful of change!

That's one thing I've never done, but my kids used to go with their church group when they were younger (all grown adults now)..:santa:

We used to take our girl scout troop when my daughter was in scouts. We would go to local nursing homes. It has probably been at least 3or 4 years.

I was in grade school in the 70's. We went to Mike Schmidt's house from the Phillies & was invited to sing for his dinner party. There was an elevator in the house & we all were shocked.

:santa:high school:santa:

foreign language classes used to learn carols in their language and then go around town caroling!

Probably when I was a teen. Either with church or Glee Club.

I used to in college with other musician friends. Last year, I went with a group to a nursing home. I met a lovely lady named Grace who used to sing and I sat and sang with her. We both enjoyed it so much. No one else in my family sings, so I rarely get to indulge....:(

Can't sing, don't like winter weather...probably about 50 years since I did it. :confused3

Last Christmas. I'll be doing it again on the 20th. We'll share a meal of soup and sandwiches after church, then gather and go out among the neighborhood, and come back for cookies and hot chocolate, hopefully bringing some of the neighbors and their kids with us to share and sing.

the one and only time i ever went carolling was when i was 8 years old as a girl scout (back in 1965) - as i recall, it was very cold outside and i whined/complained the whole time - haven't ever done it again since!

Ohhh.... maybe 30 years ago. I was having an okay time -- not bad, but not good either. Anyway, we went to this 1 house. It just so happens they were having a party, and everyone came out to listen. This one man was just so drunk. He looked right at me and commented, using rather colorful language and words that I had never really actually heard anyone say, about how bad my singing was.

I have only in the past few years been able to sing again without feeling self-conscious about it. I tell my "kids" at church that I am firmly in the "joyful noise" category.

Oh, I love caroling!

When I was in high school (mid-80s) a group of my friends and I used to go together every year. Now our church choir goes every year. We mostly visit the shut-ins of our church, and it really makes them so happy. We're going on the 20th this year. :goodvibes

Afterwards, we go back to church and have a chili and hot chocolate. So fun!
