So, what's the strategy for booking Christmas week?

My DH and I have finally decided that we want to spend the week of Christmas 2008 in a studio at AKV. We can't call until January and the bad news is that I have ALWAYS done all the travel planning and can't this year because I'm a teacher and can't leave my classroom in order to call as soon as they're open. Do I tell my husband to call day by day as soon as they are open and take whatever is available? We don't like moving at all, but we will do it. I'm I right in thinking that it is pointless to do a waitlist for such a busy time?

I wouldn't take any chances - if your DH is available, have him call day by day as early as possible. This way you will be pretty sure to get what you want. Just tell MS how many days you will be booking, and they will hold your confirmation until the last day is booked.

Yes have him call day by day and waitlist if you have to for days you don't get to start with. I had waitlists for Christmas week and NYE come through within 2-3 months of the trip so it is not pointless to waitlist but get as many days as you can to start with. When I have called day by day at the 11 month point I have always gotten the whole reservation right away. The key is to call early and have patience while you wait for that MS person to pick up. Once you are in the call queue don't hang up.
