So what's the story with the preacher's wife?

What have you heard? Is it clear she shot him? Do they know why?

(I don't feel like watching the news. I just got home from work and I'm burned out.)

Police: Minister’s wife confesses to killing
Authorities will not reveal motive; police do not believe it was infidelity

John David Mercer / Mobile Register
Sheriff's deputies lead Mary Winkler into court in Foley, Ala., for a child custody hearing on Friday after Tennessee officals filed first-degree murder charges against her......

I tried copying and pasting the whole article, but there's so much advertisement and the pictures get in the way...

Instead, here's a link to the story provided by MSNBC.com
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11992497/

Here's another link w/ a link to the afidavit. If you squint real hard you can read the fine print.

The whole situation is just sad. The kids are probably in shock that MOMMY shot daddy. It will be interesting as this story develops. Iam surprised that a thread hadn't been created here on the DIS earlier. You Comm. board posters are pretty quick on this type of news.

Here's the latest link from fox news and their aff. link http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,188977,00.html

The only interesting tidbit I read was the he was a "straight-from-the-Bible" preacher. Now, you can read into that info that perhaps he was super strict/controling and she snapped.

Or course, it could also be that she is just wacko.

I guess there's just not enough info to even make an educated guess right now, but I hope the motive will not turn out to be what I suspect it might be.

This is just so sad -especially for those three daughters.

I know! The CB is my primary news source!

It has ace reporters, conservative and liberal columnists, gossip columnists,
entertainent reporters, and on the ball editors! ;)

edited to correct "news"!!!!!

So, Zippa D Doodah, what do you think happened? I promise not to flame you. I've been flamed and know how it feels to be flamed, so I promise not to flame any one.

I agree w/ mrsv98. She either snapped or went wacko. Here are my possibilites. Infidelity, financial issues, she felt too controlled or felt she didn't feel equal in the marriage, was abusive toward him or vice versa, felt ignored since the church was so sucessful. There are so many factors or combinations there of that could've led to this horrible event.

The MSNBC report said, Children in the house during killing.
Mehr said that the couple’s daughters were at the house when their father was shot and that authorities had found the weapon used to kill him. Mehr would not give any further details. If the kids were any where around the house (basement playing or outside near the house) the kids (at least the older ones) heard the gun shots.

My heart just goes out to the kids. In a sense I feel sad for the wife and sad for the victim.

Side note- I know what you mean about the Comm board being a primary news source. Why do you think I posted about having a gecko for a pet? I posted here before doing a search on the www.

I had a client mention this story this morning and I had NO idea what she was talking about. The CB is slipping because usually I know all the news before everyone because the CBers are up on all the latest!!!

They found them just a few miles west of us - surprised me that they found them so fast.

But, I agree with you to an extent. I told DH when it first came out yesterday morning that it wouldn't surprise me if she had something to do with it. That particular denomination is very well, how can I say this nicely - they don't allow females to have any leadership roles whatsoever, teachers, speakers, etc. I think he probably was pretty controlling - just my opinion - and I told DH, "I bet she got fed up with it."

Those 3 little girls are beautiful in the pics they have on CNN. I feel horrible for them. CNN had that his parent's have stepped in and requested custody. Can't say I blame them on that. My prayers go out to everyone involved in this story.

But there was a humorous point in Fox News article. She was busted at the Waffle House. I'm trying to follow the logic. Shoot my husband and I gotta have those hash browns? :confused3
I know she's got 3 kids and they have to eat but any self-respecting murderer gets their hash browns from McDonalds. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Sorry but my DH loves Waffle House and forces us to stop every time we're in Florida. Come to think of it, I've often thought of shooting him over the Waffle House issue. :rotfl2:

Sadly, situations like this most often include some form of spousal abuse (emotional or physical). Even women who "snap" (ie Andrea Yates) are often involved in a relationship with a domineering and controlling spouse. I don't think people often just snap -go postal -flip out -insert you favorite euphemism here -in a vacuum.

Now let me back up and say... this is all just wild speculation in this specific case, because no details have really been released.

Nancy Grace just reported about the case. I just missed it! Wow, the motive must be a good one if they haven't released it yet! I don't deal well with cliff hangers!

the possibilites are endless! As I said, I hate cliff hangers. To all who are interested....be sure to post if you find any thing out! I'm flipping through the channels and the www. but there's no new news. I'll keep searching.

They were caught a few miles from me too. I was watching the news last night when they broke in with the news.

As far as Waffle House hashbrowns go, I made the hubby go out last night & get me a double order, covered & smothered! Yummy!!!!

If we have anything new on our news tonight, I'll post it. aSbella
