It might be/include celery root, which is often eaten sliced or mashed as a lower carb potato substitute. At least that's what I thought of when I read "root mash". Maybe someone who has eaten there will post.
I don't remember exactly, but I thought it was a combo of "regular" potatoes and some other "root" veggies such as turnips, carrots, sweet potato etc. all mashed together.
Just curious as to how you roast them. What size chunks do you cut? Do you boil first? Just butter in the roasting pan or do you roast with a piece of meat? I've always done them the old-fashioned Finnish way. Boiled em (or pressure cooker), mashed them up with butter, cream, drop of molasses, s&p, and broiled the top until brown.
