"So what do you want to do next?" An April '10 TR...final thoughts 8/2 p. 63

I've never had the western scene, it's always the gangster one. Is the western scene less used or something?

I lovee AIE. It's one of my favorite attractions at DHS. I wonder if anyone on the DIS saw Aaron's original audition when they were there?

Just so you don't feel bad I know the Demi Lovato song too. (Though I do have a 10 year old daughter);) Great update. I really like AIE too. It really does feel like the show. I wonder how long they will be able to keep the talent level relatively high.

Aw man, you got the gangster scene again?! :headache: I guess Fiance and I lucked out when we got the Western scene for a once! I love seeing first timers freak out during the Alien scene. :rotfl2:

YES! AIE! I hope you thought of me while you were there. I love how close to the real thing that the stage looks. I know that Camp Rock song too, so you're not alone!

Yeah, I don't know why we always get the gangster scene! :confused3

It is pretty awesome how realistic it all looks. haha, glad I'm not the only one who knows the Camp Rock song. ;)

I love DHS. Joe and I get the western side more than the gangster side. Not sure why. :confused3

I've never been to AI. I should probably go and check it out.

Really? That is funny! Maybe I should go with you then so I can see the western one. haha

YES, do the AIE! I promise you won't regret it.

I have no idea, you'd think it would be the same. Aren't there 2 trams kind of running at once?

Same here, it is definitely one of my new favorites. I hope that it sticks around for a while. I wonder if anyone saw Aaron. That would have been so awesome to watch the real show and say HEY, I saw him in Disney World! I wonder what he sang when he did it. I am so curious.

LOL, I don't have any kids so I can't use that as an excuse. ;) I'll just say it's because I'm a teacher and have to keep up with what is popular with the kids...:rolleyes1

That was a really good finale. :lmao:

Thursday, April 8, 2010 cont'd (part 3)

After watching the Jedi Training Academy we headed back to Toy Story Mania to use our fastpasses. I'm trying to remember what the stand-by was at that point...maybe 90 minutes or so? I do know that, not surprisingly, the fastpasses were gone for the day. We once agian lucked out with it being just me and dad. A cast member saw us and asked if we were a party of two and was like "Great!" and let us right through. We were able to board a car right away! Literally no wait. :thumbsup2 If you recall from earlier in the morning when we rode Dad beat me. I was determined not to let that happen again. I think I might have been ahead after the first game but sadly I couldn't keep that up. I lost again! GRRRRRR. All I had was a sore arm again from yanking on that string like a crazy person. Sigh. Next trip...

Another thing I wanted to do this trip was meet the Up characters so we went over to the Animation building. We went right into the character area and I got in line to see Russell and Carl. Can I just say I love that movie? Best line is when Russell first goes to Carl's house and is like "Good afternoon!" and asks him if he needs any assistance on anything. It's just hilarious the way he says it and repeats it half a dozen times. :rotfl: Sorry for that little random bit, just had to share. Anyway, the line for the characters was kind of long but I was determined to wait while Dad played around with some of the other stuff in the building. Well, that willingness didn't last long. I stood there for 15 minutes or so and hardly moved at all so I ended up getting out of line. Kind of a bummer since they're not there anymore so I guess I missed my chance. :guilty: But we did get to try another new thing...the Animation Academy! While we were waiting they show different characters being drawn which is fun for the kids to guess. Some of those kids must've been waiting a looong time because they would guess the right character when there was one little line drawn. haha Then we were let into the drawing room! The first thing I noticed was that the pencils didn't have erasers. Ummm...not good for a person like me who can kind of be a perfectionist. Our teacher told us there were no erasers because it was only a 20 minute class! This was going to be interesting...

So who did we end up drawing? Jiminy Cricket! I have to say I was kind of nervous even though I knew they'd walk through step by step. But in all honesty they make it so easy. Here's how mine turned out...not too bad if I do say so myself! You can atleast tell it's Jiminy Cricket, right?

Seriously, I am probably the world's worst artist so if I can do it, then anyone can! Definitely a new favorite. I'd love to do it again on our next trip! After our art class it was off to the Backlot Tour! We JUST missed out on getting into the preshow. The family in front of us was the last group they let in. Boo. O well, still not too long of a wait.

A couple shots from the tram ride:

And after the tour we wandered around the Streets of America to look for some more hidden treasures. Found the Singin' in the Rain umbrella!

I don't know if you can really tell, but you can make it "rain" by standing on the little black pad near the bottom of the pole. I think I got a few "OOOHs" from people walking by. LOL.

Lightning McQueen and Mater were also out greeting guests. Whenever I see Lightning McQueen I always think of my cousin's son because he absolutely LOVES Cars. hehe So cute.

We slowly started making our way back to Hollywood Blvd. I wanted to see the Block Party Bash (the last time I saw the whole thing was in Disneyland) so we just hung out around there and looked in a couple of the stores.

28667_636192912344_20305212_36717074_3875203_n.jpg

We found a place outside of Mickeys of Hollywood (I think? Whatever the main store is in DHS) to watch the parade. Just like Move it Shake it Celebrate it, it's really high-energy and interactive. It's also cool because it has some characters you don't normally get to see.

Heimlich and the Bug's Life gang.

And a quick video:

At the end of the parade they shoot out these little foam balls, almost like those stress relief balls, and I ended up getting two of those. I kept one for me and gave one to a little boy who was kind of sad he didn't get one. But it's a fun (free!) souvenir. :)

So overall it was another successful day for us where we were able to get a lot done. :thumbsup2

up next: A really cool CM encounter and dinner at Tony's!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! I couldn't beat my mom either time on TSM either-but I beat her both times on Buzz-go figure. :confused3 The Singin' in the Rain umbrella wasn't working for us, even when another guest told us what to do. :sad2: I was also really sad the UP characters weren't there anymore, and I attempted to wait in line for Lotso and The Incredibles and got out of both of them. I just didn't want to wait. Mom didn't want to do the drawing class, but I thought it would have been fun. We left before Block Party Bash, which I wanted to see because it looks fun, but we were too tired and crank to stay. Oh well, that's another reason to go back!

Sarah's going to have to wait for me to pass on before she can stake a claim to being the world's worst artist. But, even my Jiminy Cricket is recognizable. I showed it (and another deawing we did later in the trip) to my wife and now they are both hanging proudly on the side of the refrigerator. :yay:

UGH! I have never found the umbrella! Could you tell me where it is :confused3 It is sooo cute! Great pic.

How nice of you to give the ball to the little boy :goodvibes Disney magic at it's best!

Sarah,
I have drawn many characters at DHS, but never Jiminy Cricket. You did a great job, it sure is fun to do this, isn't it? I can't remember what side I go to most often at the GMR, hmmmm, I guess I need to pay more attention to that:lmao:. Oh well.

Go Brew, great games, can they keep it up for Sunday?

If you walk straight towards the Streets of America from the Studio Catering Co., it's on the farthest corner. It's sort of across from the San Francisco skyline.

Too bad you didn't get to meet the UP characters. I love that movie too. So cute. For a bit the rumor was the UP characters were going to AK, but I guess that didn't pan out:sad2: I've never been on the Backlot tour. One of these times I need to fit that in.

We love the Animation Academy! One of my favorite things to do at DHS. How cool that you got to draw Jiminy, and it turned out very good too :thumbsup2

That was very sweet of you to give one of the balls you got to that little boy :goodvibes

Love the AIE pics. The first time I entered the theater I had a major Idol Geek-out. I was like "OMG It looks just like the real thing! And it's so shiny!" And since I will probably never get to see the real thing in person, the AIE will have to do. I also totally agree about getting there early enough to watch the pre-show videos. I love the montage of people trying to exit out the wrong door. It never fails to make me laugh. :rotfl:

I've never actually seen Block Party Bash (we've had issues with rain ), but I really want to. Boo is adorable! I wish she came out for meet and greets!

Aww, bummer the umbrella wasn't working. I really want to meet Lotso but I have a feeling he's going to be super popular. Next time you go you'll have to do the drawing class. The only bad thing is they don't let that many people in, maybe around 30 so be sure to get there early!

See belle's comment below. It's near the Streets of America. I want to say it's facing the Lights Motors Action entrance.

It was SO much fun drawing Jiminy. We enjoyed it so much we went back one other night to do it again!

It's nice to see the Brewers finally winning some games at home! Hopefully they can keep it up today. If they lose then I'll know my family must be some sort of curse because Dad and Emma went to a game a few weeks ago that they lost and then of course they lost the home opener and the one against the Cubs.

Yup!

Hmm, that would've been interesting if the Up characters were at AK. It stinks how they do some of the characters for just a limited time, like the Bolt ones too.

I am so glad I tried out the Animation Academy. I wonder how many different characters they do.

Aww thanks. I knew he'd enjoy it. Plus what did I need both of them for? LOL.

LOL, oh boy, that door montage is great! :lmao: I especially like the girl who broke through the one door.

In WDW I've only seen bits and pieces of it (usually when we were either getting to or leaving the park) so I wanted to see the whole thing for a change. I loved Boo and some of the other monsters too. :thumbsup2

Hey! Sorry I haven't been following the report lately. I've been away and busy and haven't gotten back into DIS-ing until now. Anyway, I'm all caught up. Sounds like you're having a good time. Bummer about the character lines though. I guess I'll have to brace myself for a wait when it comes to Tiana and Naveen since they're must-meet characters for my next trip. Sounds like it will be like waiting for Pixie Hollow all over again.

On our trip in January with Sarah's mom and sister, there was nobody there to see Tiana and Naveen so she had plenty of time for pictures and to chat with them. Of course, that was a relatively uncrowded time of year.

I love the animation academy but when I draw, it seems I have not gotten any better than I was in say........kindergarten. :lmao: It's so much fun though and we check it out every trip.

I really love DHS. :lovestruc

Yeah, it's funny because I waited almost an hour to meet the fairies but didn't have the patience to do it again for the Up characters or Tiana. Oh well.

I love the animation academy. We now make it a point to check it out each trip!

I love it too!

LOL! Yeah, I thought my drawing was pretty good but then I saw some other people's and was like GEEZ! They looked like an animator drew them!

Cute block party pics! :)

Ahhh how cool you got to draw Jiminy Cricket! Yours came out so cuteee! I found out about Animation Academy from the DIS, and we checked it out last trip and loved it! It's a must-do for us now.
