So What Do You Eat Before a Dessert Party?

So even though I lamented over paying more than double the cost of the last dessert party we attended, I decided to suck it up and pay so we can have a less stressful viewing of Happily Ever After. Last time we went, we foolishly ate dinner at Pecos Bill's too close to the party and were still too full to really partake of many of the desserts (plus it was freezing). We will be having an early lunch around 11:30 and the dessert party check in time says 7:45 pm so we will obviously will be eating something before the party (also we plan to take a break at our resort-CSR). I feel like I would be in a sugar coma if I came on an empty stomach :crazy2:. For those of you who have been to the dessert parties just wondering what time and what do you eat before a dessert party?
:flower:

Maybe split something from a QS or split something like the Nutella waffle from Sleepy Hollow. With an 11:30am lunch, I would probably eat something small at 5pm.

I'd be thinking that you'll be hungry between 4 and 5 pm. I'd say at that point, find a snack or split a QS meal around that time. By the time it gets through your system, it'll be 7:30-7:45, and it's time for a SUGAR RUSH!

I try to eat at about 3 to 4 hours before, so maybe some QS around 4pm something light like a soup or salad but something with nutrition cause you're not getting any at the dessert party!!

I would plan on something meat/veggie based around 4pm, definitely avoid a big meal though!

Agree with others. Don't eat a real meal. A snack or split something to get you through will work. There are some savory options at the party and tons of food. I would definitely try to get a little protein like maybe a hot dog at Casey's or chicken nuggets but nothing more. When DH did this a few years ago, we ate around 2:30 and I'm glad we didn't eat much later because there is no way we would have been able to eat our money's worth if we had.

I'll be the dissenting opinion... ;)

We eat a regular TS meal EARLY - maybe 4:00/4:30. We don't get appetizers or a dessert, and we never eat GIGANTIC meals to begin with.

But our goal with the dessert party is not to eat as much dessert as possible -- we really do it for the reserved spot, and just eat whatever dessert we're actually hungry for by then.

We have a super early dinner so that we have room for dessert and we usually get a few snacks for lunch that day.

Dinner at Raglan Road, at least that is our reservation this coming November. Currently at 5 but probably going to move to 4 or 4:30 so that we have a bit more of a buffer for finishing dinner and getting to MK for the party.

I have CRT booked for a 4:20 dinner in August with the dessert party starting at 7:45. I looked at pics of the dinners at CRT and the portions do not look tremendous. The party is mainly for the reserved viewing for us as well. DH and I are not big dessert people to begin with and my kids can always find room for sweets, lol.

I just thought it would be magical to eat in the castle and then watch HEA at the castle. Plus, the kids don't know about any of it, complete surprise, which makes it kinda fun too.

I lamented as well regarding the price of the party, but I think with the new show it will be worth it at least once.

The last dessert party we did was on my 40th birthday. We had a late lunch at Le Cellier that day. We were on the DxDDP, so we had our own apps, entrees, and desserts. We were stuffed. But by the time we got to the dessert party, we were ready for it. This October, my DH and I will be attending our second dessert party. Our plan is to do the Food and Wine Festival for lunch, get a Dole Whip Float for an afternoon snack (have to have one!), and maybe split a meal at CHH around 5 if we feel that we need it. We have cut our meal portions way down so I'm not sure we will even feel like we need to eat at CHH at all.

We have an 8:30 breakfast the morning of, and then we'll probably just snack, or possibly split a late lunch later in the day.

Several years ago, I made the STUPID mistake of booking one right after a meal at Citricos. I was miserable, and didn't really get to enjoy the fireworks.

We eat dinner, as usual, but we skip dessert. Generally do it a bit on the early side (5ish). We don't eat a ton at the dessert party, but enough to sample many things and that's all I want. I definitely don't view it as a meal replacement.

My husband and I split a chili dog prior to the Star Wars dessert party. There were savory snacks in addition to all the sweets, so we didn't get too sugared out.

We have a 10:40 Bon Voyage Breakfast that day, so we're planning on a snack/light meal at around 4. My child is over the top thrilled about having dessert for "dinner." :p

Same. We generally eat at BOG around 4:30 and just have a few things and some drinks at the dessert party. I can't eat that many desserts anyway!

On dessert party nights, we generally do a QS breakfast, have multiple small snacks throughout the day, then a nice sit down dinner around 4 to 4:30.
We're not terribly hungry by the dessert party, so it prevents me (a big chocolate lover) from overindulging!

Honestly, I think the smartest thing to do is NOT to go into the party hungry and fill yourself up on all that crap. I know you paid good money for it, but you really want to eat that stuff in moderation. Anyway, there is no way you can really get your money's worth on that stuff unless you're one of those professional eaters or you want to be in serious pain for the rest of the evening.

We have 2 parties booked for this trip, and both nights, we have a TS at around 5 pm. We'll eat light with no appetizer or dessert, get a few desserts at the party, then enjoy the show!

:thanks:Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I am really not a dessert person either (I'd rather apps over dessert--or a bag of chips--salty things are my weakness lol) the party booking was more to see the fireworks stress free than pig out on sweets. I know I won't eat my money's worth (especially now that it's not longer $25) but I just didn't want to be stuffed like last time. I think sharing something not too heavy around 4:30-5 is a good idea.
