So what do I wear? Hurry! I'm almost packing!

Hi! Ok, so we're going to Universal - I booked a totally impulsive trip (6 days' advance)because I got a good deal with a military discount.

So surprise! I'm arriving with my daughter Monday! (who still doesn't know - I'll tell her it's her college graduation present on Saturday!)

I'm usually a Disney uber planner! Plus I've been going to WDW since they were still building Space Mountain.

I've done as much crash research as I can - but there's one thing I don't know - I'm pretty girly - and I'm also a native Floridian (in exile) - so I like to wear dresses - because they are actually cooler! And I'd actually like to look cute in my vacation photos.

Are there any rides that are totally unfriendly to a girl in a maxi dress? You know - things that require a strap or safety bar between the legs? Or am I nuts to think about going on rides in a dress?

I mean, I could wear a pair of cargo shorts (husband's) and a tee shirt and look like a total hot mess. (Me, not commenting on anyone else's fashion choices).

Honestly I don't own any shorts or leggings, too hot for jeans - and wear a tee shirt almost never - and I just couldn't make myself wear yoga pants in public! I really don't have time to shop - LilMiss graduates Saturday and there are events tomorrow too, then Sunday is Mother's Day. We fly out Monday so it's maxi's or People of Wal-Mart level hot mess (and I already apologize if you see me!)

Help - the clock is ticking and I need to pack!

You can wear a dress but you'll need to hitch it up on a couple of the coasters that have a buckle between the legs.

I pack a lot of dresses (and shorts, and palazzo pants, and well...I pack a lot, lol) and haven't had a problem yet. We leave this week and I am not gonna have time for a shopping either. I usually prefer to just pack all kinds of new goodies, lol. Enjoy your trip!!

I think the Mummy, Dragon Challenge, and Forbidden Journey all have a bump that goes between the knee area. I don't think it would be an issue with a maxi dress as long as you don't mind the dress pinched together, except if you want to ride Dragon Challenge. That's an inverted coaster, so you have to click a buckle between your legs. Unless you want to hike your dress up above your knees.

I have worn a dress to the parks....but wear something like cycling shorts underneath to protect modesty when you do have to hike it up for certain rides.......it`s not a problem.

Wear what you feel comfy in, you see all sorts of outfits on people.......no one bats an eyelid.

I only wear dresses to the parks - like you said, it's much cooler and I want to look decent in my vacation pics. Here's what I wore on my last Universal trip and I had no issues. There may have been a few rides where I had to hike it up a bit but it wasn't indecent (ie. even hiked up, I was still showing less leg than someone wearing shorts). Have a great trip!

Thanks!!! I feel much less panicked! I really didn't want to be walking around in my husband's cargo shorts!! It looks like I will have a little time this afternoon, so I might see if I can shop for a pair of bike shorts ( and maybe a cute handkerchief dress like Penguins!)

Go to Athleta and get some cute skorts. Extremely practical for amusement parks and they look cute. I have several of their a-line ones (now discontinued Bettona ones). Costco has some ok ones but the pockets aren't great. REI is another place to check.
