So....what are we fighting about?

I'm teaching a class about leadership at WDW. One of my upcoming classes will be about fan controversies at WDW - what fans "fight" about...like the question of trying to cheat in a 3 year old as under three, or pool hopping.

What are the hot button issues that interest you? What, in your opinion, is always going to start a WDW strategy fan conflict?

thanks!

Comments about folks in ECVs, whether they 'should' be in one if they look healthy, reckless driving of them and using one to get advantages on rides and buses, always good for a verbal brawl and a thread closure in 5 pages or fewer.

That's probably the best example. I was going to say "large tour groups", but then realized there's really no controversy there at all. Everyone hates them :)

I'd say the various strategies for getting more than your allotted 3 FP per day per person plus one at-a-time after first 3 used (separate MDE accounts, using bands of people not at the park with you, bringing bags of old bands for same day extras)

Family saving a place in line. People who show up to parades 5 minutes before start and expect you to move to accommodate them. People who come to a dead stop in the middle of a flowing crowd and expect everyone to go around them.

Oh yeah....people who grab open tables at a CS without having their food first.

Of course, previous was my "serious" controversy. . . I also get extremely amused at the very passionate arguments about celebration buttons, line cutting, stand/sit etiquette at parades and fireworks. . .

Throwaway rooms and booking a campsite. Also get some good stuff on Rider Swap and FP hoarding, and there's the consistent battle over FP+.

Pool hopping.

Staying into a party time when you don't have a ticket.

I think most problems start with one visitor disrespecting another in some way. This can include being reckless or careless in driving an ECV or pushing a stroller, being a pedestrian who stops or crosses in front of an ECV or stroller without warning, not keeping control of your kids (or yourself), cutting lines, not picking up after yourself, trying to scam the system whether it be DAS, RS, etc. Throwaway rooms may be technically allowed but is disrespectful of other people that might actually want to stay there and now can't. People that expect others to move out of their way so they can get last minute prime viewing for a show, parade or fireworks are being disrespectful. Trying to use facilities that you haven't paid for is disrespectful of those that have.

Hard ticket events with non-paying guests not leaving (or being escorted out of) the park.

We often fight about if Disney is being "Disney" enough. Some of us see their standards as slipping. There's also a question of value, especially as to the amount of closed attractions.

I think a lot of the "fights" relate to loopholes that Disney hasn't closed and if it is ethical or not.

So the booking the throwaway rooms/campsites or the recent example with websites selling ADRs (or services to find you ADRs) or some of the fastpass+ loopholes when you combine it with rider swap, etc.

Beyond that I think big discussions have been about FP+ and if it is better or worse than the old system and similarly about ADRs and having to book so far in advance vs doing away with them for only day-of reservations. Though in those cases I think most people acknowledge that there are different ways to tour and, for example, FP+ is better for some people and the old system was better for others ... but it's the internet so that doesn't stop the debate

Other things get people riled up (like people cutting in front right before a parade or fireworks start, etc.) - but I think even the people doing that probably think they aren't "in the right" - they just don't care

No one has mentioned giving up your seat on a bus yet? Or how having kids should give you priority over adults traveling without kids? It is Disney after all. And Disney is for kids.

;)

I was also going to say the ethics of the "throwaway room, camp site" strategy.

pool hopping

whether certain rides are "outdated" or not.

The value of Disney vs. Universal

If Disney standards are slipping or not
