We are hoping our dd gets in. She had her phone interview this past Thursday. She is a jr. in college. I am wondering what all do these kids take down there with them??? Is it going to be like moving into dorms at college?? What can we expect to have to bring for her room/apt. Thanks!!

I would say yes it is similar to what you take when you move into a dorm. I know others have made detailed lists but we did bedding, towels, bathroom items, clothes, tolietries, computer, tv...that sort of stuff.

I did the program twice & had a blog for my second program. I posted a list of what I packed for the second time with notes about what I didn't have my first time, but did my second, what I bought once I got there, etc. I flew down for my first program, but drove for my second, so I was able to bring more stuff with me instead of having to buy it once I got there. Hope this helps: http://disneykristin626.blogspot.com/2010/07/packing.html

So basically we need to drive her to FL from MD....because there is NO way all of this stuff can be packed if traveling by air. :rotfl: Okay...well I just want to know if she gets in/when she has to arrive.

Most everyone buys what they can't fly down in Florida. It depends on how much driving would cost as opposed to buying stuff in Florida. There's a walmart and quite a few other big outlet stores within driving distance. My dad and I will be renting a car when we get down there, if I'm accepted.

Since I flew down, I mostly just brought clothes. I did pack a set of sheets and towels as well, plus dvds, books, stuff like that. Then I bought most of my stuff down here.

I've heard a lot of people ship some stuff down to whichever hotel they're going to stay at the night before check-in, and they'll hold it for you.

Oh, thats a good idea. I need to find out how much it is to ship a good sized box. I'm probably gonna have a fair amount of stuff that I can't fly with but will want that I can't buy down there. I'll only bring very essential things with me on the plane.

My daughter got her list of available dates to arrive so we are going to make that decision tomorrow. We are trying to figure out whether she will want/need her car. My husband said they could drive down and bring her stuff down and he would fly home. So a lot to figure out.

I'm thinking of just packing my whole room when I pack for the CP, if I'm accepted. My family has been talking about moving again for a while, and it could possibly happen, at least locally, next summer... opinions?

I drove down and I packed about two suitcases with clothes, some stuff for the kitchen, linens for my bed, a bag full of plushies (hee hee I'm a bit of a kid at heart) and then my parents shipped down the rest of my stuff (i.e. extra clothes, internet router, etc.) I drove and STILL didn't have any room to fit all my stuff (maybe because my parents were in the car with me and had all their luggage cause they came down with me to help me move in and then flew home). However some of my roommates flew and they just ended up buying some necessities when they got down to FL (there's a wal mart and a Super Target nearby). There's a bus that goes from the Housing complexes to Wal Mart (H bus for those alumni out there) and back but it tends to be packed A LOT! It helped that there were two people in my apartment that brought cars (me and my roommate I lived with) so we could all carpool and go together to the store. Often times we would go to the Super Target cause it was less crowded and tended to have more in stock (especially at the beginning of my CP when everyone and their brother had to go to Wal Mart cause it was close).
