This will be ds's first plane trip and my first since 9/11. I am feeling kind of nervous. Also, ds has a sinus infection so he is on antibiotics and I really hope he feels okay and isn't puking on the plane. Anyone have any tips for how to get my nerves under control?

Take deep breaths and just think about the number of people and the number of flights every single day which take off and land without incident. Hundreds of thousands of people fly everyday. That always helps me. I am not the best flyer - trubulence really bothers me until one day a nice gentleman on a flight leaned over and said to me " a plane has never crashed because of turbulence." Since then flying isn't so bad. Also, just think of the wonderful things waiting for you when you land.!!

Have a great trip:D

Hi Valerie,

My family flew Sept 11 2001. We were sitting with flight 11 at Logan Airport American Airlines. My 12 year old daughter was able to ID one of the Terrorist and tell the FBI just what happen when he tried to get threw the metal dectector and GOT THREW !!!. We were able to get home before all the plans were grounded.

We came home to hearing that my beauitful 7 year old neice had died in her sleep that morning at home (this was a very unexpected death).

My 12 year old daughter went into a deep depression as you could expect. We had a Disney trip planned for just a few weeks away and I did not know how I was going to get her on that plan. She would ask me daily to cancel the trip (a kid wanting to cancel DISNEY) but I told her I was going, I was not going to let 9-11 stop me from Life or her 2 little sisters from going to Disney.

About 2 weeks before we left I found a card that said

"What are you going to carry today ?
FEAR OR FAITH
This card was her ticket back to us, She knew that she could not be afraid the rest of her life and she is not. We have flown several times since 9-11 and each time my daughter will tell me " Mom I have Faith not Fear"

So Valerie, I guess the only thing I can say is

Fear or Faith.

Have a Wonderful Trip to Disney

Wow, mine is not so profound as nealymouse, I take dramamione, the max dose.

I don't think your DS would puke because of the sinus infection, but the change in cabin pressure might cause it to hurt more, especially his ears. Make sure he's had his sinus meds at least an hour before you get onboard, so they are working. Also, you should have chewing gum to help relieve the pressure when the plane pressure changes in his ears and tell him to yawn to make them pop too, if need be.

Take a very interesting book - one you can get lost in so you don't pay much attention to the fact you are on a plane.

Wow, Beth, that story gave me the chills. How traumatic for your daughter.

I was going to say Xanax. I used to take it for panic attacks and wished I had some before my first flight this year (first since 9/11 and I was bad even before that). I got all panicky walking down that corridor leading to the plane and thought I was gonna lose it. Looking around at all the calm veteran fliers reassures me. Having someone calm to talk to REALLY helps, too. I got so lucky on my trip to England; the cutie next to me kept my mind occupied. Then, it was really easy to sleep since I was sleep deprived from packing all night.

Oh, and no caffeine!!

Good luck! And if you hit turbulence, close your eyes and pretend you're on Space Mountain!

I highly recommend Ear Planes. They are soft silicone ear plugs that equalize the pressure in your middle ear during a flight. They sell them at most pharmacies. If you have a chance, run out and get them for your DS. They have them in adults and children's sizes. I use them every time I fly, so do my DSs. I never have ear pain during take offs or landings anymore like I used to.

Have a wonderful trip! :wave2:

Definitely give him dramamine. It will prevent any nausea from motion sickness or other factors. Make sure he gets it at least 45 minutes before flying to ensure it works.

We flew for the first time after September 11th on July 4th 2002.

I hate to fly and I was leary about flying on such a big holiday . . .BUT . . once I got to the airport and looked around and went through security I really felt a whole lot better . . .When we boarded the plane I knew that our flight would be an uneventful beautiful flight . . .and it was . . .

You'll be fine . . .Have a wonderful trip . . .:sunny:
