So DH found out that his inventory is now switched so that opens August back up for us. So we were seriously thinking of switching it back.. I know that gives us 18 days to get ready... Well we looked at the camper and guess what.. The inspection was up the end of July. Our local dealership I know wont have any availability and the cabins just sold out for the back to school offer. So we possibly still sticking with our September dates. I was just a little excited because then the kids wouldn't have to miss school, but I guess we have the Halloween party to look forward to.

We actually went a year with our inspection expired. We didn't realize it though. For our TT, it often seems such an afterthought whereas the truck or cars, because we use them so regularly. Even more so because in PA you can get a multi-year registration for you Trailer (Camper, boat, tow dolly, etc..) so it's easy to forget the Inspection.

Hope you enjoy your trip whether it's sooner or later.

PA state inspections are the worst. They are by far the hardest time I've ever had getting my inspection license. I use to work in the Youngstown/Mercer areas. I don't know how you guys do it, almost have to buy a new car every couple of years.

VA is a permanent trailer tag. But the trailer inspection is the same month as the truck that tows it. I don't bother trying to get any of the local RV places to inspect it. I found a shop that inspects medium and heavy duty vehicles and they have no issues with the truck or trailer, nor did they with the bus.

Depending on your state, might not have to go to the RV dealer to get the trailer inspected.

I don't know what we are going to do. My dad who worked in the business for years say just go they never look. But knowing our luck we would get tagged fro it and have to leave I just know it lol.

It's supposed to be a safety inspection, so really, it should be looking for too much rust (or holes) on the frame and supports, the breaks, the lights, and tires. All of which I want in good condition anyway. I am okay with having them check it out, but it's still a pain in the ..... Well you know. (PITA)

Anyway, I don't have too many issues with the PA inspection for my truck. One, it's newer, but two, I use the same mechanic I did when I first started driving. 30+ years ago. He is fair and doesn't try to give us the run-around. He is about 30 miles from where I now live and I still make that trek.

My DW had to get her Town and Country inspected several years ago. She was worried we wouldn't get it to my "Preferred" mechanic in time, so she took it to a local chain. They failed her car because her Wiper left a streak. (not a bad one either). Really? - About $100 later (as they are LONG and I refuse to put cheap wipers on the vehicle) she passed. That's the last inspection we had there.

Not every state requires a trailer inspection. I know NC doesn't. Local law enforcement doesn't know the laws for every state and all they can check on out of state tags is if the sticker is in date. So honestly, I don't think you'll have an issue.

At least your states have inspections. Florida did away with them years ago and you should see some of the crap on the roads.

And typically, even if Local Law enforcement DOES know about your states inspection, they cannot enforce it. They can only enforce laws for their jurisdiction. Florida is NOT going to cite me for an expired PA inspection. HOWEVER, the moment I am back in PA, I am subject to the law so I risk getting a citation.

As a former Police, most officers won't bother you for such an issue UNLESS there is some other reason. (i.e. they notice it's expired and they wanted probable cause to pull you over for something else.) Even if it's only a month or so out of date, many would give you a warning.

Not encouraging someone to break the law, but just want to inform on what one could expect. :)

It has a big ole sticker on the side with month and date, so its hard to just skate on by.

Same here in SC. But I remember when they required it when I was a kid. It was a joke. You paid your $3, they handed you a sticker and that was the extent of the inspection.

I think in the Northern states, where vehicles are more subject to RUST, it tends to be more important. Down in the southern states, they have their issues too, but not quite the same. I think that's why they don't have as many places that require them.

As of last year, Mississippi dropped all private vehicle inspections and trailers were never required to be inspected. We just pay massive sums for our tags instead.

While it's true we have some entertaining "crap" on the roads (no hood, door roped on, etc.,) I am glad FL doesn't require inspections. It was a big PITA all the years I lived in WV, and this past decade of not having to deal with it has been fantastic.

Unfortunately not the case in small town WV. If they see you with an inspection sticker expired by a day, they can't wait to pull you over. Nothing else to do in some of those towns.

A big problem was that there were no inspections stations in town and everyone had to go at least an hours drive away to get inspected every year. The only two stations that close were always backed up, so unless you made an appointment several months in advance, you were not going to get your sticker in time.

Being a family with quite a few vehicles, rv, and boats, inspection stickers were the bane of my existence, literally year round.

Yeah, I hear you about small towns..... In PA it's such a business that pretty much every garage/repair shop/tire dealer/muffler shop also has an inspection license. If not they don't stay in business very long.

Right now, I have 3 cars (and 3 drivers) and 1 trailer to deal with. So it's not too bad for us.

I feel like this should be some kind of requirement for keeping your mechanics shop license in those areas - take on a minimum number of inspection stickers every year or shut down. We had plenty of mechanics around, just none of them would fool with it.

Just hope Florida never gets any big ideas. :-)

As soon as you cross the line out of your state, literally nobody cares. There is no other jurisdiction that would even question it.

Not sure if the inspection is for a "Trailer" or a Driver (Class A, B, C). I'd be less concerned if it was a Trailer then I would if it was the vehicle. I am certainly not encouraging you to violate the law, but I tend to agree with your dad, especially if it's a trailer. If it's the driving vehicle, however, I might be more concerned.

Do you have concerns about it PASSING an inspection? If so, then that's a whole other issue, but otherwise, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff. As Fort Forever stated, that as soon as you cross the state line, Nobody cares. Moreover, other Law Enforcement don't have the authority to enforce another states laws.

As a final thought, when I was in the military stationed at West Point, NY, my vehicle had PA Plates, so I was subject to PA Inspection. Never worried about it until I was going home, because NY can't enforce the PA inspection and they cannot Perform the PA inspection (including the Stickers). This isn't a result of the military, rather a result of location.

No I have no concerns about it passing inspection. Last year we just need new tires and that was it. all of the lights work there is no rust at all and we just need a strap for the battery as we cant find ours.

I think we are still waiting to see if we can swing it. We are pretty down to the wire. But I think we are just going to go for it once we leave. Our local place just screws us and its upsetting because we were all family at one point. My dad worked there for years before starting his own business but that doesn't matter anymore lol. Plus they are a high end dealer so its just frustrating!

So its either 16 days until we leave or 51! So we shall see!

Yes!!! Why am I paying $379 for my truck tag????
